Installed HFL on your own???

My HFL freezes up my system. It simply locks up my Nav system, radio and phone upon hitting the :Pick Up" button on my steering wheel. The radio etc wont work until I turn the car off and on again. Unfortunately I am outside of my warranty so Honda Acura world will not let me renew at this point.

I am thinking of replacing the unit myself if I can find the part from a salvaged vehicle.

2 Questions

1. Does anybody know if the HFL unit from any 3rd generation TL should work in my 2004?

2. Can a amateur (me) install this or should I bite the bullet and pay the dealer almost a $1000 to have this "Diagnosed" and replaced?

Thanks for your input

Did you check and see if there is a TSB out for this problem?

Kenny did a thread on how to install HFL onto a non-HFL TL (since in Canada HFL wasn't standard on 04's without the nav package)

Even though it dosen't have navigation... it might help you out

I have a 2006 TL HFL unit for sale. I upgraded mine (a LOT of work -- https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-audio-bluetooth-electronics-navigation-94/success-upgraded-04-06-navi-07-08-navi-w-navtraffic-691376/) to a 2008.
A 2006 should work for your 2004. A very simple swap. 10 minutes.

I can send it to you. It was working perfectly. You pay me shipping. If it works, you pay me for the HFL. If it doesn't, you send it back to me (at your cost). I did the same thing with another board member (whitelegend) w/ a navi disc. It fixed his problem. https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-audio-bluetooth-electronics-navigation-94/no-navi-voice-command-guidance-voice-700190/

PM me if you're interested.
