Contemplating doing a conservative system upgrade in my TL. I don't want anything over the top, I just want a decent upgrade to what is the crappy stock system.
I already have an Isimple installed on the factory deck. Another thing that is important to me is trunk space. I like to carry around miscelaneous parts and sports gear back there for an unknown reason. I think there is also a pack of stick on moustahces from the last cinqo de mayo. Anyways, throw your ideas at me if you have a minute. TIA

How much trunk space do you need? All of it?

Most of it. I could do a small MDF sealed box. Weight is another concern for me as I don't want to bog down the TL.

Here's what i came up with.

Couple options for subs.


1. 1 Tc Epic 10 $188

This needs 500 watts @ 1 or 4 ohms

This will work well in 1 cube sealed.

2. 2 Alpine type r 8's $200

These work well in .5 each sealed..so 1 cube sealed for the pair just like option 1. 3 will be great but probably no budget for it.

700@ 2 ohms for 2 or 1000 @ 1 ohm for 3

3. 3 Jbl Gto 8's $180(for all 3)

These work well in .35 sealed, so 1.05 sealed for the trio.

600 watts @ 1 ohm


4. Image Dynamics idq 10 $239

600 watts @ 2 ohm

These work VERY well in 1.20 cubic feet sealed. This will be the biggest box and most expensive, but will sound the best out of the 4.


Amp for sub will depend on which option you choose.

Thanks alot for the help Eggy. I was thinking something along the lines of a single 10" setup over multiple sub setups. I like the idea of getting one, decent multi channel amp for both the front stage and the sub.

Those little Alpine 8's are getting a ton of love on DIYMA. Might try a few of those in a small ported/sealed box if you're looking to save space.

With that budget, you have plenty of options. Definitely don't forget deadener though or all that money is wasted basically
