I got to be able to do something with this

Aloha !

I hope this doesnt come off as a newb question, but ive been looking over this site for a few weeks and cant seem to find a viable solution, so pardon me if someone did have this situation and i couldnt find it.

1- I own a 2005 Acura TL w./ Navi

2- The Navi map I have does not include Hawaii, and I can not seem to find one that is compatible and has Hawaii. (The final orange one just has 48 states)

3- SO now I have useless navigation system

Any suggestions on what the best or options to do is ? Can it be hacked to do something different ? I mean the screen is there right ? Should I just pull it out and put a double DIN head unit in ? Isimple ?

I feel like there needs to be a better solution....Any help is appreciated ! Mahalo braddahs !

You live on an island, do you really need a map?? lol

3 options:

1) Plastidip the CD.

2) Trade the car in, its useless. Part it out first.

3) Move to a real state, not a made up place i can only dream of visiting....

Just kidding, im of no help whatsoever.

Do I need the map ? Have you ever been to big island ? Its huge, various places have similar or the same names, and its very rural some roads dont look like roads. Will I ever end up the wrong state ? Probably not, that would be a hell of a story, but navigation is still very useful.

Do I need it to be the factory ones ? Not necessarily.

I def want to be able to play my iphone and ipod though. I hear mixed things about isimple/usaspec/grom/dice.

Has anyone actually taken out the nav screen and put in a double din ? Seems like there has to be a better way.

I seen some cool mods where people put tablets in place of the nav screen but I am not that handy and not sure any audio shops here are either.

Thanks for the offer Goose, but as far as I know, they never made a map disc with Hawaii, that is compatible with Gen 3 TL's nav.

Are you sure, can you send me a link ? I was under the impression that 2004-2006 gen3 can only use the Orange discs. If they can use the white ones or newer ones awesome, but even acuras navi site says orange is the latest one.

meh. I guess I could technically switch out the components but man that would be a lot of money and work.

seems like a lot of work for navigation...
why not look into the nexus thing, or throw an ebay mounting kit on with a double din?

It does seem like a lot of work with no idea if the wiring would even be compatible.

Can you tell me more about the Ebay mounting kit or Nexus ?

SO I just looked up the parts on Acuras site, and the screen for an 07 and an 05 are the same part number. The DVD Roms have slightly different parts numbers. Seems like maybe can just switch out the DVD Roms in the trunk ? It would all be a matter if the wiring changed or not. I cant find the wiring as a part.

If you use one of those mounting kits what happens to the navigation screen ? Do you still use it to control climate etc ?

IMO the navigation is almost useless, They do so much road construction here that the $100 DVD will be out of date within months, and the one on my phone is always up to date. Still, it is pretty cool when I happen to be on a road that is correct.

Still, I usually just switch the display over to the audio or Trip computer screen.

All that said, I thought I had seen a double din bezel that supported the climate control... I'm guessing that the voice command and probably HFL would stop working if installed... I can't seem to find a link for it now though

<rant> I wish auto manufacturers would just follow the double din standard, there's no way they can predict what technology is going to do in a few years, I have the same issue with my truck, and I"m looking at ripping the whole system out and just putting in a cheap head unit that supports Apple CarPlay, but what should be $400 is going to cost me $1,500 because I'll have to replace the speakers, the amp, and as long as I'm at it I might as well throw some bass under the rear seat. <end rant>
