"how-to" navi question

I have an 04 TL w/Navi and can't figure out how to search in a certain way. Lets say I want to find the nearest McDonald's. I can't easily do it.

I can find nearest fast food, and search for mcdonalds.
I can find mcdonalds, but I get ones all over the country and sometimes its not mcdonalds but "mcdonalds family restaurant" or other categorizations.

Is there a way to just find store XYZ by distance?

TIA,

Mike

When I had my TSX I had that problem also. I never did find a way around that... there very well may be a solution, the car just didn't last long enough to really spend time to figure it out! (not that i cared ALL that much, but it would have been nice to be able to do the search within a distance)

Perhaps this is a suggestion that should be passed onto Acura Cust Care and ALSO Alpine ... if we can't find a solution why not make it better with future updates?

It's easy. There are two ways to do that:

1) You can find by place name. Type in "olive garden", and you will get a bunch of options, usually they say "Olive Garden, eating establishment" "Olive Garden, restaurant" "Olive Garden, etc..." There will also be a number indicating the number of records found. Usually there is one that has many more records than the others. Select that one. Then all of the Olive Gardens will appear, sorted by distance to travel.

2) The easier way to do it is to find by category. Since Olive Garden is a restaurant, sort by restaurant, then Italian food (although if unsure of restaurant category, you can select "all types") Then you want to sort by Place Name. Enter "Olive Garden." On the next screen, sort by "Distance to Travel" Then all of the Olive Gardens will appear, sorted by distance to travel.

It's actually all in the Navi manual. Save your $ on the 411 calls, and use the Navi to its full potential!

Thanks man! You saved me a lot of trouble. I almost went to the Olive Garden in Pennsylvania before I realized it was a bit too much travel for dinner (2270 miles). I'll make sure to RTFM!

Thanks large_x7 for suggestion #2. I already mentioned #1 (although not in detail) and its inconsistent.

I'll try #2 this weekend! Thanks.

I knew someone would say that ....

Anyways, I found today that we can also use Place Name by keyword - then you get the 'Sort Distance by Travel' option.
