I've video DVD with 5.1 adio tracks of songs. Can I just get the 5.1 audio isolated and burn a DVD-A with these to play 5.1 in TL?

Please let me know pointers to investigate more.

Thanks.

DVD audio Extractor (http://www.castudio.org/) will allow you to extract OGG, MP3, WAVE, and (I think) ac3 tracks in 5.1 format from DVD-Video.

I have not found any software to create 5.1 DVD-A with. I know it can be done, but I haven't figured out how to yet.

Use DVD audio Extractor to extract each song/chapter to 6channel wav files and burn with DVD Audio Solo

Do you need a Dual Layer DVD burner to do this?

Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

I rip the DVD iver to 6 channel .wav files using DVD Audio Extractor.

Then In DVD Solo, after I click the "Write" button, I'm getting an Error message: "Too many files for this DVD Disc Capacity".

Problem is, the 6 channel .wav files I create are only 4.3GB - they should fit.... I think.

What am I missing here?

I think i figured this out - I originally set DVD Audio Extractor to 24bit. Setting it to 16bit created files that were half the size.

I just kicked off a DVD burn using DVD Audio Solo and it seems to be working fine now - no error message.

Have you been using the 16bit setting when using DVD Audio Extractor to create the wave files?
If I can get this to work it will be great - I'll double my DVD Audio collection (I have 7 DVD concert videos that use Dolby Digital 5.1.

lumpydog,

With 24 bit I could get up to 18 songs. However, even with 2 cannel stereo I cannot get more than 18-20 files on one DVD it gives me "Too many..." msg. Even though I've a total size of 3 GB. I dunno what is wrong. I made my first DVD of 18 songs with 6 channel and am trying other with about 75 songs of 3GB total but in vain.

With Stereo Files, I believe you can get upto 99 songs,. I used Ulead burn now. you can also use adobeman's scripts. With 6 channel audio and using dvd-audio solo, The maximum I got was around 20 songs. But boy does the 6 channel dvd audio sound sweet

Guys, I've followed the instructions in this thread and was able to burn a DVD audio disk but it wouldn't play in my TL. I was using DVD+R media, possibly the problem, what media have you all had success with? or are there any other hangups that any of you came across in using DVD audio Extractor and DVD Audio solo?

OK, wild idea... would it be possible to create a DVD-A of the audio track of a DVD movie, and then play the movie through Dom's Navi->DVD converter, and the audio from the radio and have a full surround movie experience?

I used the Audio Extractor and Solo softwares to create a DVD-A disc for my Eagles farewell tour dvds. They worked okay, but the sound effect is hardly overwhelming; they sound more like CDs than DVD-As. I ripped the tracks using 16 bit and 48000 with the Extractor and wrote the tracks using the "quick" format in Solo. Should I have used 24 bit and "full" format to get the most out of the original sound tracks? Anyone has better experience?

It is unlikely that you would notice any difference with 24 vs 16 bit. I'm assuming you used uncompressed wav files and that you picked a 5.1 channel stream on the DVD. (Sometimes there is a 2.0 track on the disk as well) Solo will show you the #channels, sampling rate, etc so you can verify there. The "quick format" will make no difference. Generally I find that 48K/16b is sufficient for anything you are pulling off of a DVD-V. It just may be that the mix sounds better in your home than in the car. Sometimes that happens.

An now, I can't resist using a saying that my friends have all heard me say. "The only good Eagle was Joe Walsh". All the good guitar riffs were his. Yeah, Glenn Frey was pretty funny with the whole "Smugglers Blues/Miami Vice" gig. But Mojo Nixon was spot-on about Don Henley. (OK, OK I'm kidding...a bit )

Thanks for your quick reply. I found out the problem ... I inadvertently used 2 channel instead of 6 channel when extracting the tracks. Still, the sound effect (in 6 channel) in the car is not as good as my home movie theater setup.

I know the TL plays DTS 5.1 surround, but wonder if it also plays Dolby 5.1 surround. And what is dts 5.1 vocal? Does this mean only the vocal (but not the instrument accompliments) is 5.1? If that is the case, it does not make a lot of sense.

I see you are an Eagle connoiseur. I agree Walsh is great on guitar, and I thoroughly enjoy his performance in Hell Freezes Over and the Farewell One Tour. He seems to be the only one in the group who likes to "horse around" and has a sense of humor. The others are sometimes a bit too "dry".
