How do you take out navigation from trunk?

I have a 2004 TL with nav and its been acting up, when I start the car it says downloading updates or new software. Sometimes it comes on and lot of times if I just put it in ACC mode eventually it starts up.

Is it safe to assume the connection is bad and I have to send it out to alpine? Every now and then I can get lucky and the nav or radio screen comes on, but thats getting fewer and further in between. So do I have to send it out to alpine for roughly $150?

If I do, this might sound stupid, but I can't seem to figure out how to completely remove the carpet to get the navigation system out of the trunk. I removed a few twists and stuff, but still no luck.

Can anyone please tell me step by step how to do it or has pictures showing what to do?

Any help would be appreciated. thanks.

I guess for some reason I'm having difficulty removing the carpet and can't get to the screws.
