HFL steering wheel buttons with aftermarket head unit
HFL steering wheel buttons with aftermarket head unit
I got my aftermarket head unit installed this past weekend and everything sounds and works great. The only thing that is not working are the steering wheel buttons to answer and hang up phone calls coming in now from my new Alpine ILX-107 head unit. My other steering wheel controls for CH+ and CH- and Mode work fine but not the HFL buttons. I understand that those buttons are wired to the HFL unit itself (which i have unplugged) and not with the stereo but wondering if anyone has gotten them to work somehow and can share that. I would even be ok to have that work using different buttons like the CH+ and CH- buttons as well. Can anyone chime in?

The wires for the HFL are Brown (ground) and Orange. Is it a matter of tapping those wires for HFL into the ASWC-1 from metra interface that is installed in the car?

I got mine working. I couldn't find the bus line under the dash, so I taped in to it up where the factory HFL was. Then ran it down to the "control box" (sorry, brain dead atm and cant remember the name of the unit I'm using to convert inputs).
I'm running an Alpine ILX 207, simply because I didn't want to be limited to apple phones. Other wise, they're the same head.

74f100,
Were you able to get the Push to Talk (PTT), Off-Hoof, and On-Hook to work with your aftermarket radio? I'm looking to install the ACSW-1 and was hoping to keep those features functional on the Steering Wheel. Any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

PTT doesn't, the other two work. I will at some point go over the diagrams for the stereo and car wiring to see if it's possible to program PTT. The Head recognized the input, but doesn't react. Probably just a programming issue with the Maestro interface. That part wasn't really important to me, so I stopped with being able to answer and hang up calls. I'm doing this system for my wife, and don't want it too complicated.
Axxess ASWC-1
Quitarplayer,
Recently, I installed the Pioneer AVH-X390BS radiio in my 2006 Acura Tl. Initially, I installed the Axxess ASWC-1 and the steering wheel Volume Up, Volume Down, Seek Up, Seek Down, and Mode buttons worked flawlessly..
In an effort to keep the OEM look, and utilize the On Hook, and Off Hook feature of the Pioneer, I removed the HFL (Black Box) and tapped into the Orange and Brown wire from the -22- Pin Green Harness. The Brown wire is attached to Ground and the Orange wire was attached to the Grey/Red on the ASWC-1 as per the instructions attached below.
"Congratulations, your vehicle will be auto-detected by the ASWC-1. ASWC-1 Connections 1) Connect the Black wire of the ASWC-1 to chassis ground. 2) Connect the Red wire of the ASWC-1 to a 12-volt accessory wire, one that turns on and off with the ignition key. 3) Connect the Gray/Red wire of the ASWC-1 to pin 3 of the vehicle. Below is a picture of what the connector in the vehicle looks like: This is the wire view of the connector in the vehicle 4) Connect Pin 11 of the vehicle to chassis ground (you can use the same chassis ground the black wire is connected to). 5) All other wires on the ASWC-1 please tape up, they will not be used."
When attaching the Brown wire to ground and Orange wire to Gray/Red wire on the ASWC-1, the Interface does not allow manual programming nor does it auto detect the Vehicle or Radio. Also, none of the previous working buttons work.
Any assistance you can provide to assist with getting the Steering Wheel On Hook, and Off Hook to work in conjunction with Volume Up, Volume Down, Seek Up, Seek Down, and Mode will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Try dis connecting the brown wire. I have a maestroSW, and it calls the brown wire a "feed", and that is at the stereo location pin 11 (Connector A, 20 pins). I only tapped one wire at the HFL (Orange, Pin 02 in connector B).
74f100,
I'm assuming you are referring to the Push To Talk (PTT). Unfortunately, my Pioneer AVH-X390BS does not have that capability so there was no need to try to manually program that button.
