HFL mic quality?

I heard some complains of people calling me, and they said they don't hear me all that well when I answer with the HFL. They say that it sounds like i'm standing 15 feet away from the mic.

I see from the manual that the microphone is by the center rear view mirror, there isn't some 'easy' way to get that closer to the driver's mouth isn't there...

Thanks

Booster Seat!

Seriously, when on HFL, close the windows, turn down the fan, speak directly at the rearview mirror....you know the drill.

AHAHAHH LOL, booster seat, I'll put that on my Christmas list.

Ya, I always end up yelling at the rearview mirror when on HFL... That probably looks more Schizophrenic then people who talk on the small blutooth headsets.

What sucks the most is the half duplex voice channel. If your caller has a lot of background noise, they will never hear you unless you SHOUT REALLY LOUD.

One other possibility (assuming you're not talking with the windows rolled down, sunroof open, vents blowing at the HFL and radio on) is that you have a defective HFL/mic unit. IIRC, enough of the 2004 TLs had bad sound and sound drops from the HFL units to result in a TSB specifying replacement.

Have someone call you from the TL and see how they sound to determine if the HFL mic is bad.
G/L.

I almost always roll with windows up, roof closed (even the sun trap closed) and the vents point straight back.
One thing I find particularly intrusive, is the tire noise on the highway.
If the car is sitting still, then ya, the mic works decently. I have a 2008 TL-S 6mt.

I don't know if this helps but you can read it and see:

Seems Acura is aware of the problem and redesigned the mic.

So I wonder if this is upgradeable in an '07 TL-S with Navi?

Hmmm, good question. Perhaps you can call your dealership and see.

I'll ask next time I'm at the dealer, but honestly I'm not optimistic.

Bear in mind that you ARE in effect talking on a speakerphone, so it's not going to sound like talking on a normal landline. There's always going to be a bit of that distant effect.
