My HFL finally took a dump on me and I'm wondering if I could get a HFL unit from a different year or different model Acura? Differences between the 07-08 base and the Type S HFL?

 

I can tell you that the harness plugs are different for the 04-06 cars and the 07-08 cars- I was helping a friend with his failed HFL (his was an 08) and my HFL wouldn't plug into his car (he purchased an 08 HFL online and it then worked perfectly again). I would imagine there would be no difference between a Type-S and the standard car assuming they were both of the 07-08 year.

I was able to connect an 06 MDX HFL into my 06 as well, but that doesn't specifically help you out.

 

I believe it's the same unit for all '07-'08 TL models.
HFL parts numbers will be different due to bezel/plastic cover colors that match different interior colors, but the HFL unit itself is removable (Torx screwdriver needed) and can be transferred to your car's existing bezel.

Easy way to check: go to acuraoemparts.com or oemacuraparts.com and search for the HFL in the "interior light" section-- "telephone assy" and "hands free."

 

Nice, it'd be great if I could get a base 07-08 HFL and swap it out as it is a bit cheaper than the Type S one. I was just worried about compatibility and/or function issues. I don't need the bezel cover as I can reuse my current one. Thank you for your responses.
