I have the option to upgrade my dvd hard drive to the '07 using the white CD, does anybody know what the difference would be verses the '04 Orange Disk say 3.40?

Then, for 3.40, after you put in your Model Year and Car Type, choose the "Prior Updates" link at the bottom.

Difference between 04-07.. isn't it 3?

I believe that some of the differences are Zagat (or whatever the heck they call it) for restaurant selection by rating is included (major cities only I've noticed) and support for xm traffic. Could be more.
Never seeing on pre-07 navi I read (probably on here) that the display is a little higher resolution but I could be wrong. I think I remember seeing pics here of peoples DICE text display on 04-06 navi screens and they look different than the 07 but again, I could be all wet on that.

Can an orange disk system be upgraded to a white disk system by just changing the truck mounted dvd drive/assembly? I thought there were some changes in the head unit as well.

do you mean updating the firmware on the drive itself or just inserting the white disk to get new info on it? If the first, tell us how you did it, many of us are searching for a solution. If the second, it is not possible. The dvd drive will only read the orange disks and not the white ones. The entire navi drive is different for the 07's, it has additional wiring for XM nav-traffic, as well, some of the pins have changed to allow for a higher contrast screen, and more integration into the radio to control the Dolby Pro logic and what-not.

If you are saying you are changing the drive itself, it will not work. The radio will not function as the controling software is different. As well, the CAN will give many errors on the XM unit, radio unit and HFL unit.

 

In 07 with white disc you get will "real time" traffic (but white disc will not work in 04-06 unless you upgrade the Navi itself to 07 or 08 version. Hope this helps

 

So your saying that a '04 radio will not work with a '07 screen and DVD drive?

 

Most likely not, Psheu tried putting in an 07 radio into his 05 tl and it wouldn't work because of a software error.
