Help with upper air vent removal before I scream

I'm trying to get the freakin' upper air vent out so I can remove the radio, a/c unit to install an iPod adpater. Console is completely removed and I found these instructions for the air vent removal. But I swear I can't get the stupid air vent out to save my life. The instruction say use a hook tool to get in a small opening and give it a pull but when I pull, nothing moves whatsoever. The only opening I see is bettween the vent housing itself and the vent tube that is made into the dash.

What am I missing before I say screw it and reassemble?

Thanks!
Buster

You might want to forego that technique and try this one instead. You don't need to pull out the air vent or the glove box using this technique.

In the essence of time and frustation, I did actually go ahead and attempt that route and got it connected. However, I can't figure out how to get the radio to work the iPod. I'm using a USA spec. My car has XM, no nav. I' unpluged the white plug from the radio and plugged it into the USA spec harness and then plugged that into the radio. When connected, the iPod shows HONDA, "ok to disconnect" which is what the manual says it will show. However, with no disks in the changer and hitting MODE on radio, it doesn't change to CD mode b/c it sees no disks.

Is there something I'm missing on the operation?

Something that really pisses me off is the iPod adpater ont eh USA spec doesn't seem to depress the release tabs well enough and it almost destroyed the dock adapter on the bottom of the iPod when I tried to unplug it.. Is this a common problem?

Thanks!

thats wierd it should work just by hitting the disc 6 button, until the screen changes for the ipod to work. the adapter is kinda hard to unplug off the ipod, just depress the tabs and wiggle it off. i had the same issue with mine.

It doesn't work, with or without a disk in disk 5 or 6 slot. If there's no disk in, it says load, if I hit the Disk/tape button in hopes of it going into some kind of auxillary mode and picking up the iPod, it doesn't do it. If I have a disk in there, it just plays the disk instead and never pics up the iPod.

My iPod is a 30gig 5th generation iPod video with 1.2.1 firmware. The packaging says the HON2y will work with an iPod video as long as the firware is 1.1.1 or higher so that shouldn't be an issue.

I'm baffled.

I recently installed the USASPec into my 05 TL with Navi and had no probs. I didn't have to remove the vent or stereo but it was a pain in the ass getting the plug in. But eventually got it.

After installing it I ran the wires, setup the head unit, plugged in the ipod.

Then I hit the CD button Twice. First time takes you to the cd change in dash, 2nd time will activate the XM or external changer controls which the USASpec pretends to be. At that point it all works fine.

I've had no problems. I know there are some other switches on the unit. I'm not sure what they are for but you might want to verify they are set correctly.

call me crazy but I don't see a CD button on my radio. I see a disk/tape button and a mode button. Hitting the 5 or 6 button twice only pauses the current disk and doesn';t flip over to the iPod. If there's no CD in that location, it does nothing and continues to say "load". I don't have nav and have a separate button for XM.

Dip switch 1 is only used if you're using the auxillary inputs and dip switch 2 controls whether you want to control your ipod from the ipod or the steering wheel. Neither way works for me.

Still baffled.

oh.. the american cars are a bit different. You may have to press your xm button once or twice to get to the ipod.

On the canadian cars we have cd/dvd button that we press to get over. Give that a shot.
