Help trouble shooting stock sub.

Hey guys. Bought 06 TL recently and I've notice the stock sub doesn't work. I tried putting the bass level low and high and then playing with the sub level and it does nothing. What should I start trouble shooting, and where is the amp located in the car? I want to check the the fuse and maybe open up the back tray and see if the previos owner did anything with the stock sub wires.

Factory amp is located in the passenger side kick-panel. Just pull the panel and i'll come off easily. Wiring diagrams can be found easily here.

Sounds like a good excuse to add an amp/sub lol

The easiest thing is to start at the sub and work your way to the front. Turn up the radio and sub, unplug the sub wire and see if you have voltage. If you do, check the resistance of the sub and compare to whatever the stock specs are. If you have no power to the sub, go to the stock amp, test, if there's no power there, test the pre-amp signal.

More than likely you're going to find your problem near the sub. The previous owner might have had an aftermarket system which usually requires unplugging the stock sub. It may be as simple as plugging it in. The wire is accessed through the trunk, pull the carpet down and you'll find it.

There's not going to be a dedicated sub fuse. If the other speakers work, the factory amp is on and it's not a fuse issue.

If it turns out to be something like the amp, you're better off going aftermarket. You can get a decent aftermarket amp and sub for about the same price as the stock amp.

I bet the sub was disconnected for using an LOC. Just pull the trunk liner down and look through the big hole in the middle. There should be a plug going into the subwoofer on the side of it...if there isn't...there's your problem

Hey guys thanks for the helpful info, I'll try all this tomorrow and post my findings. I hope its easy like a quick sun re-connect. Or even better if the loc is there for me waiting for me to drop in a sub!!

Hey guys, so I open up the lining in the trunk today and I found the problem. Plain and clear, the sub was unplugged. The good news, it was un plugged because the previous onwer left behind a loc mounted in upper section and all the wiring tucked away. Look like 10awg power as well. So I'm pretty please with that. As a result I plugged in the stock sub for the the time being until I get a nice new one with a fiberglass encloure (color matched ). I also cut out cardboard pieces and stuck them inbetween the rear grill/vent and I totally elimanted the rattle that I was introduced to when I actually had the sub on

Thanks for the info guys, you guys are great!!

What is the easiest way to remove the stock sub to put a new one in?? I want to upgrade to a 10 or 12 but it is looking like the only way to remove sub is through the top....which means seats and everything coming out and I really didn't want to do all that but if I have to I will anyone else done this mod??
