Help with replacement speakers not fitting!

I have a 2004 acura TL and I'm changing out all the speakers. I purchased JL audio's C5 component set for the front doors and when I popped the panels out today to my disgust the speaker bracket sticks out epically from the frame. I have no good way of screwing it down. I was thinking of speaker spacers but I'd need at least 2 of them for one speaker to make up the difference. Has anyone had experience with this issue or these exact speakers fitting them into an 04' door? Everything online says this speaker fits into that door....it doesnt seem like it will be easy to make it work...

The C5s are great speakers. Only a couple speakers will fit out doors with no mods. Infinity and I believe some Polks but they're not in the same league as the C5s. Just about every speaker requires a little cutting of the door and a baffle (spacer). It will likely only take making the "D" shaped hole round to get them to fit which is easy work.

Make sure you install sound deadener on the door and the door panel. I hope you have an amp as well or you might be disappointed. Also, I don't know what brand you got for the rears but especially on a '04 I would take them back and use the money saved on an amp. This will get you huge gains over aftermarket rears and no amp. The '04 only uses rears as a little fill. You will never be able to hear an improvement in sound. Same goes for the center and stock sub location.

Hey IHC, follow up question for that. I've been getting back into the audio thing lately, and have a few things en route to me at the moment, including a RF 3sixty.2 and an Alpine PDX V9. I'll finally be getting my components installed in the front, along with raamat on the doors.

My question is why you called out the '04. Is it any different from my '07 TL-S audio wise? Since I'll have two more channels available, I was thinking of using them to power some aftermarket rears, since I thought maybe the 3sixty could make it all sound nice. But even with that, would it still be better to just disconnect the rears? Maybe go active up front instead?

Leave rears on oem amp for rear fill. Bridge channels for front components first and maybe go active if you want a challenge.

Yes I have a JL 400/4 amp to power the speakers. How should I go about cutting the hole bigger in the door? Sawzall?

As Pohljm said - tin snips. Go to your local hardware store and look for stanley brand. These are good for people who don't typically use them as they show the direction they cut right on the handles. Otherwise green is left, red is right and yellow is "straight". I do not recommend power tools for this, a mini grinder will send sparks everywhere, and the sawzall will probably rattle everything off your door, and possibly dent your outer body if it grabs on the speaker mount metal and goes for a run.

And if you accidentally cut it too large, no worries, just throw a 9" in there.
