Need more information.

Does your garage door opener have a "learn" button?

most new garages are likely going to be rolling codes. press the learning button somewhere on the garage motor and then keep pressing the homelink button until it syncs. Make sure you clear homelink memory if this is your first time.

Press and hold the two outer on the homelink for 20 seconds so it clears it's memory. Press and hold the desired homelink button along with your garage door opener button at the same time until the LED starts flashing rapidly- should be about 3-5 seconds. Get on a ladder and press the red learn button on your garage door motor. Run your ass back down to your car and press and hold the homelink button you just stored the garage door opener code to. The LED light should put on a light show indicating its all set. Press the button to test.

Welcome, OP! Just keep at it. It might take a couple of times. At least it did for me?

But, I now have 2 of 3 homelink buttons programmed.

^^
Chances are it's the actual garage door that has a bad range. Mine works from two houses down as I'm driving home.

What about programming HomeLink to my community security gate?
I have a little gate remote to open the gate to my community and cant seem to program HL to it. I have cleared the memory as mentioned above before I tried but no luck. It just keeps blinking fast which according to the manual, means it uses a rolling code and it suggests to press the learning button. I have looked and cant seem to find that learning button. Is there a different method I could try to get it to work?

You can't find the learn button on the actual gate itself? There's a chance it wouldn't have a learn button out in the open- for security reasons. If it is a rolling code, the only way to program it involves using the learn feature of the gate/garage.

I'll double check for the learning button by the gate, but if not, I'll ask the maintenance guys let me take a peek I guess.
Thanks.

I have an 05 and 06 TL. Mine took a couple of times to get the Homelink button programmed to my 05 but for some reason I can't get it to program to my wife's 08 TL. I guess when she gets back into town I'll try what cjTL suggested.

Hey, cjTL I tried what you said but it was a rolling code. So, I had to press the homelink button I wanted programmed for about 5 seconds then jump up on a ladder press the learn button on the garage opener then run to my car and press the homelink and garage door remote buttons at the same time and after about 2 tries the homelink button flashed fast then solid. Thanks for your help again cjTL.

Shouldn't. Those are two completely different modules. Could be wrong though.

Hmm. And did it give you problems when you had the HFL connected? Make sure you're following every step correctly (see my directions towards the top of this page).

Even if you program the Homelink properly, sometimes other things can interfere with it. Mine doesn't work much beyond the end of my driveway because we live fairly close to some Defense Department facilities that are known to interfere with garage door openers—shortly after 9-11 quite a few people in the area found that their openers no longer worked and it was found to have something to do with DOD communications frequencies.

About the community gate, you should contact your association and ask them if they'd go open the gate control and press the "learning" button for you. This is a guess but if you don't do that, and it's a rolling code, it will be the same as if you tried doing it for a rolling code garage door when you don't press the button. Lucky for me my community uses a good old 10 pin clicker and they actually don't even change the code from the way it comes from the manufacturer.

^^^Dude, my community isn't secure at all. Luckily, it's a pretty safe neighborhood and I live like it's a bad one. Meaning, in garage every night.

Can you guys give me the make and models of your garage openers? I'm researching a new Chamberlain but have seen reviews that even though it's HomeLink compatible, it's really not or you have to buy an add'l adapter.
