HELP! Clearing HFL Settings.

Hi everyone!

I purchased my '04 TL pre-owned in August after it was traded in on a BMW. I just recently purchased a Motorola phone with Bluetooth and paired it successfully with HFL. The problem is that yesterday while I was programming names and numbers into the HFL, the HFL system locked itself somehow. It's now prompting me for a four digit passcode in order to unlock it. (I tried the code I created when pairing my phone - that's not it.) My only guess is that the previous owner set a code and that this is what the HFL system is looking for. I found instructions in the owner's manual for clearing the HFL system of all settings and paired phones. However, I can't "unlock" the system to clear it because I don't have the right passcode. Any ideas short of tracking down the previous owner?!? Many thanks for any feedback!

Bill

I also bought a preowned TL. When I went to pair a couple of phones with it, I realized there was already a paired phone and some phonebook entries. Now that I know the previous owner had a girlfriend named Kim and all her numbers , I cleared the whole thing. I don't recall the specific command, but I think it was "Clear." I found it in the spiral-bound quick reference book that came with the car. I think it went something like this:

"Phone Setup"
"Clear"
"Yes"
"Yes"
"Yes"

(It kept asking me "Are you sure you want to do this?!")

bill - did you ever get this figured out? I just got a pre-owned '05 TL yesterday and have the same problem... press the phone button and the pleasant-sounding lady says "the system is locked, what is the 4-digit passcode" and I can't get past it. the dealership where I bought the car is currently at a loss on how to get past the problem.

Telephone System Locked Resolution

Hello - yes, I did finally get the "system is locked" issue resolved. No thanks to Acura Corporate and after more than 1 visit to the Acura dealer. You need to take the car to an Acura dealer - I'll be surprised if they know right off hand how to fix it. What they need to do is to totally reset the telephone / navigation / audio system. This takes no time to do, but you will lose any stored information such as radio presets. By the way, disconnecting and reconnecting the battery does NOT work! This was attempted on visit #1 to the dealer. Hope this helps and that you'll soon have access to the phone feature!

thanks for the info, bill... i heard from the dealership service center today. they want to replace the HFL unit completely. I actually gave them your experience, and they said "Acura is recommeding to us that we just replace the module completely." they are going to do it for me at no charge considering that I just bought the car this week, so I don't care, but it surprises me that they don't even want to first TRY the approach you suggested.
