Help!
So my car is a 06 TL non navi and I went to my local car audio installation shop "custom auto" today to see about getting a aftermarket unit put in like a pioneer screen or something along those lines, and they said they can't do it as no dash kit is available for the 06 TL?? I find that kind of weird considering I browsed through here and see MULTIPLE guys with functional screens.. I know nothing about electronics so what can I do? A DIY would totally out of my league for this.
Also my buddy is going to sell me a custom box with 2 10" subs and a amp for a steal of a price.. Will that wire right up to my stock system?
Thanks

Hey Jeff!
up until recently, maybe 2012 or 2013, we DID NOT have "dash kits", so there was no way to install a double din, unless you fabricated the hardware yourself.
now, in 2015 we absolutely do have a "dash kit"!!
let me see if I can dig up some of the threads where they are selling them. hang on.
So, maybe the shop you went to was relying on past information.

If you purchase an amplifier installation kit, it will usually include a 17-foot RCA cable, 4 or 8 gauge power and ground cable, fuse and fuse holder, and split loom. Amplifier installation kits are available online from Sonic Electronix, EBay or Amazon, or can be purchased from your local stereo shop. Be aware that although the packaging might say it's 4-gauge wire, it's highly likely not, especially if it's priced cheap.
If you decided to replace your factory radio, you want to budget in the cost of the installation supplies you're going to need. Do you want to retain the steering wheel controls? If so, then you need either an Axxess Interface ASWC-1 or a Pac Audio SWI-RC.
For ease of installation, you might want to use a Metra 70-1721 harness, however, if you're planning on retaining the factory amplifier, you're going to need to solder male RCA connectors to the speaker leads on the harness. The factory amplifier uses a low level input.
There are several things to consider prior to performing your installation. It's best to map things out and ask questions, before jumping into this blindly.

Most amplifiers available have high (speaker) level inputs, so purchasing a LOC might not be necessary. Once again, it comes back to whether or not he's going to install an after-market stereo or retain the factory.

Here is the subwoofer output from the factory radio:
Yellow/Black (+)
Light Green/Red (-)
Here is the amplifier turn-on from the factory radio:
Red/Yellow
Locate these wires at the harness coming out of the back of the factory radio. Cut the subwoofer output wires in half and attach a female RCA to the radio side of the wires. The factory subwoofer will be inoperable, which is fine since you're planning on using an aftermarket amplifier and subwoofer.
Splice a wire to the Red/Yellow wire at the factory radio harness and run that to where you're planning on mounting the amplifier. That will connect to the remote turn-on wire of your aftermarket amplifier.
With that said, you should be able to do this relatively inexpensively.
