Help!!!

I hope I can get some help here. When I was in high school I worked for a guy who had previously built high end speaker enclosures. There was a material that he would use for baffles that was a very thin, (probably 1/8") wood material. It was dark brown, and very high density. It's not MDF or HDF. Does anyone know what the material is called? I can't even do a search to find the answer because I can't remember what it was called to search for it. I have an idea for the factory sub location for my car, and I need this material because of the thickness and high density properties.
