It can be quite difficult to get a DIN chassis unit to integrate well into the TL center stack. You should definitely do some research before deciding thats the route you want to take. You should be able to find an OEM headunit on ebay or craigslist.

OEM headunit is fine, change the amp if your not happy with the power. your not gonna be running this custom setup from the new headunit amplification anyway

Look on the cassette deck and fine the model number. Yours is likely 1TB0.

My CD player is hosed and after considering all of the options, I will likely just buy a used factory deck. I don't want to lose the integration with the rest of the car. You will lose all bluetooth, navi and voice command stuff if what I researched is correct.

They are about 300 used. Some places will reman yours for $200.

Your navi will not talk to you anymore if you put in an aftermarket radio.

If you don't use your bluetooth, then take it out and sell it to me.

They fix yours in that link.

The CS is not necessary in our cars. There is no need to signal sum for most users. The pre-amp signal is full range and mostly flat for the front and rears. The pre-amp signal is 1V which should be enough for most amps to normalize voltage - most good amps anymore will work with .2V up to 8 or 10.

You need to put in an amp to get more power. If you are going to do that, then you might as well put in new components and sub too.

Check out a rockford 3sixty.2 (or 3sixty.3 out later this summer), JBL MS8 or even a Audison bitone.1.

There are probably a litany of reasons why the sub would "blow" over 30 and a clean signal from the head unit is probably at the bottom of the list. The sub was probably being fed too much power, or the amp was near max and causing excessive distortion.

Cleansweep is a signal summer. It takes partial signals from several channels and tries to reverse engineers a full range signal. It is mostly needed where the stock head unit in some cars never put out a full range signal. Ours do. I think that it might also try and flatten the signal out some, but I am not for sure.

Those other devices offer the same kind of thing, but also clean the signal and offer eq and processing ability through bluetooth from a GUI your laptop - the end result is a clean signal that is easily customizable for your needs. So think better, cleaner signal through more channels for better sound.

The JBL MS8 has a little amp in it - read the specs on it since I forgot how much it amps. The 3sixty.2/3 will need an aftermarket amp.

Let me know how the fix goes. I would really like to know.

My CD player does not work and I am considering using them. It is not crucial for me, however, since I have the iPod hooked up. I would still like to get it fixed though.

I just put a kenwood BT945U headunit in my 04 tl. It took a while(2hrs) but with some minor modding a metra 99-7416. Turned out great. I just am waiting on my 3m carbon fiber wrap to cover the side moons.

Here's how my double DIN install turned out. I could not completely hide the half moons but came close

And the business end of the system:

For that much you didn't think about adding a aftermarket unit?

Who fixed your radio for $580?

Mine is broken too (the CD player anyway), but you can get a used working one for less than $300. ...guess that it depends on the model.

I am very excited. I originally put a kicker SUM8 in and two Polk amps but imo the sound quality wasn't quit right. Changed out the HU and now I am really happy. I don't really like OEM integration. Thats just me though. But pics are coming soon.

Mono 500W amps should be all over your local Craigslist for cheap.

True but the radio i went with has the matte grey/black finish like the dash around the heat/air display, matches quite nicely. with a non color screen and non color knobs, very clean and sleek radio. Everyone has there own opinion, just like the way this looks in the dash, and i dont want nor need navi or a screen for dvds. Not bad to get oem fixed though.

also wrapped all other dash trim in carbon fiber, and door trim. Very happy with the outcome. Completely tore old system out. Just got in my 2 sets of JBL components. Waiting on 3 Kicker amps. 1 for mids and tweets, 1 for 8 inch kicker free air sub for rear deck, and 1 for 10 inch kicker cvx mounted in the custom driver side sub box. This is not set in stone just my idea for now. Any feedback on the sub box that mounts in the trunk on the driver side rear quarter panel?

I purchased the carbon fiber 3M wrap form ebay. It is super easy to apply. You will need a heat gun IMO to make the wrap easier to stretch and conform. What sub are you running in the box? How do you like it? Deep bass or punchy bass?

so you are gonna run a 8" free air sub and a 10" sealed in the trunk? I heard that mixing up subs like that is a NO NO so why did you decide on this setup?

These are just ideas im throwing around in my head. I dont see it being an issue, sure you may get different frequency ranges, but i may do it to see the outcome. Maybe send more of a midbass frequency to the free air. I dont know. Im leaning towards just going with the 10 inch CVX and see how i like the sound. Any ideas from anyone?

I will look up that wrap, thanks.

I do not recall the model number of the JL sub I have and can't look that up just now (too far from home).

The sound is deep and a bit punchy too.
