HD Radio in TL?

Is there any way to add HD radio reception into the stock TL headunit? Looks like it is set to replace FM broadcast eventually.

It's relatively new, so I was wondering if anyone has tried it yet.

Since I do work in the aftermarket radio world(circuit city install). We have been talking about this, so far there are only a few aftermarket companies that offer them at this time(Eclipse is one). As for the unit, it is a direct plug unit, not a add-on to any other system, it will only work with the same brand. The way it works, from my understanding, is that the HD signal is sent on top of the standard FM signal. It is not set to replace the standard signal altogether, just an attempt at FM radio companies trying to compete with XM and Sirius radio. They are wanting to offer better sound and the song info. In the past radio stations would broadcast with RDS, this would give station information and weather. This was very limited, as many stations did not offer this. As for the TL add on, I don't see it happening, unless they offer a radio in the future that has that option, then you would have to change yours out to it. Just my .

I agree with you Jason... HD Radio has been out now for over a year, and you don't really hear much about it. Until car manufacturers start buying into it, and shipping cars with HD radio I don't see it as being much competition to satellite radio. The bottom line is, there will still be commercials on it like the regular radio, but due to it being digital and they can use compression the station can broadcast multiple channels in the same assigned FCC frequency. Kind of how with digital TV now, some station choose to multicast multiple digital channels instead of one. I personally like satellite radio over FM, because I can't take all the commercials.
