Hardwire kit for Passport 8500..

Does one exist? It would be nice to jump the power off of the mirror or the map light as opposed to having the cord running from the cig lighter. I know Passport makes one, but i was curious if there was a TL specific one that someone is distributing..

TIA..

make your own

all you need is a phone cord, and hook the green and red wires up.

if you search "escort x50 install" there are a few threads on this. you can go to best buy and pick up a smartcord for $30 which includes an inline remote button that can be mounted in the blank near the vsa switch or really anywhere you choose. I am going to attempt to mount my mute button in the bottom storage tray.

I had the smartcord in my z06 and never used the remote mute so i figured why was the money. Of you guys that have done the phone cord mod, have you put a fuse in the line as well?

BTW thanks, i'll do a search for x50.

i did my install over 2 years ago on this car, red is power, green is ground. all i did was tap directly into the over console, and in there you'll find ground and switched power. no need for a fuse, but if it makes you feel better you can wire one in

Picked up a phone cord and plan on doing this mod tomorrow. The only problem is the phone cord has red, black, green, and yellow wires. Which ones am i running where? I thought i would just be dealing w/ a power and ground. WTF??

the green and yellow wires won't be used. those are for the led and mute button on the remote, and without a few other electronics you won't be making that work.

just use the red for power, and black for ground.

in a telephone wire the green and red are used for line 1, and black and yellow are used for line 2

I agree.. Took me maybe 10 minutes to get the housing up top off, run the wire, and hook up the ground. Now i'm just waiting for the wife to come home and watch the kid so i can run to home depot. I didn't realize i was out of wire taps.

just s[plice the wire, and either solder it in place just use some black tape. there is a way to twiist wires together without solder, and they will never come apart. when i'm lazy i do it that way

I don't get it, i grounded the black and jumped the power off of the green wire w/ the white stripe (far right), onto the red wire from the phone line and nothing..WTF??

Am i on the right line for the switched power? I'm using the sunroof wire harness (green) and not the one for the lights (black) , right??

the green/white is for the key off timer circuit. the actually power for the sunroof is near the motor, not the switch

you need to use the yellow/red wire (pin 1) on the green 22 pin harness which is for the HLF unit, and if you want a ground wire use black wire (pin 13) on the same harness

thats a 14 pin connector, which is for the map lights and homelink, if you take out the 8mm or 10mm bolts you'll see another harness near the windshield which is for the HFL unit.

i'm wrong thats a 7 pin connector, and thats the sunroof switch harness. the map light/homelink should be 20 pins and black/white in color. but either way the HFL harness is under the plastic, which comes out with the 4 bolts
