"HandsFree booting up"

A couple of weeks ago, right around the same time I hit my A1 service, my handsfree system has been sporadic. When I cycle to the handsfree on the display it gives me a "booting up" message and never comes on. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have the same message. What I've learned is this message is an indicator that your HFL unit has reached the end of its life. What I've tried in the past is the "bake" method, where your bake your HFL unit in the oven. This method did temporarily work, however, once the HFL stops working, that message will appear. I will be trying the method one more time, but just know that if that message is appearing, your bluetooth is not working. When I have that message, my car's phone button on the steering wheel doesn't do anything either.

Most likely the HFL module is gone. Careful it could lead to a dead battery if not taken care of as the module continuously runs even with the vehicle off. I am seeing a few threads on this topic lately. It's interesting because I also got the dreaded HFL booting message this week.

disconnect your HFL. It WILL drain your battery and you WILL be stuck. They're about $140 on ebay shipped.

This may sound strange - but I've had the booting up message for about half a year now with no drained battery

I'd like it to start working again, so I'll try the baking method

Ok, this helps guys thanks. I did really use the crap out of it for the 5 months that I've the car until it went dead. I may try to replace or repair as I do find a use for it. Until then I'll look into disconnecting it to save battery. Good tip. I have no clue where it is but I can find that out.
Love this car.

...the odds of finding on the black market are slim. They're just not that readily available. Ebay sellers are selling OEM with return and buy back guarantee.

How often were you driving your TL? And did you have any luck baking it?

I drive my TL about twice or 3 times a week, I've gone 2 weeks without driving with no problems, too.

Haven't baked it yet.

People say they can't last a couple days without having their battery drained with the HFL plugged in and "BOOTING UP".

Just said screw it and took the bullet and just bought a new one from an Acura dealership. It's def nice to have it working. Weird thing is when I checked the navi system to see if everything was working the HFL box was red but yet the new HFL module was working like a champ.

I actually pulled the board out of the black jacket and stuck it in the oven. 385F for 8 minutes followed by a 25 minute cool down. I then inspected for any damage caused by the baking and found none visible. Threw it all back together and in the car and now it's working again like a brand new. don't wast your $600 at the dealer for a replacement

Jeedo6, you dont have to post your post in several different threads, one thread will be fine. If you read the threads we all know that you can back your HFL, but if you did read you will also know this only works for a couple weeks, at best. Plus, these are not $600, best price online is $215!!

^^^ From everything I have seen it wont. I have been asking around for an answer to that question and if a type-s will fit a base. It seems they are all different. They have different part numbers and are different.
