Hand's free Key Code

I bought a 2006 Acura TL.
Couple of problems
1) The previous owner "forgot" the 4 digit key combination for the Hand's free and now I tried about 1000 different combinations (I tried all the fancy numbers and them started with 1001 and now I am at 1700+). The dealer quoted about $115 (in Richmond, VA). Is there a place where I can get this unlocked for a cheaper price or can I "reset" the Key?

2) I lost my Keyless remote ( Memory Position - 1). The dealer in Richmond, VA quoted $150 (including KEYFOB and programming). I searched online and found http://www.keylessride.com/ selling what I require, does any body know that this website is genuine. If I buy the FOB from the website can I program it myself (I am very good in following instructions as long as it does not involve opening up my car).

Thanks for reading...

Mallik.

Welcome to the forums! First off you make your own four number passcode when you are setting up your bluetooth device. Second I haven't used that website before but as long as you purchase an exact fob like the one you lost you can program it yourself. Which beats going to the dealer

you should be able to clear everything on the Hands Free and start from scratch.

A lot of BT devices pair with pin 0000 by default. Or, you've changed the pairing pin on your actual phone/device. Look that up and then try to pair with the 4 digits you have.

Do you happen to know how to clear everything on the HFL? I've read previous threads where the only solution was to buy a new HFL, as there was no way to unlock it if you obtained the car second-hand (my case) or if the previous owner forgot the code.

My local dealer told me that it couldn't be unlocked, and would need a new HFL in order to use in my car again.

Edit: Oh yes, I've tried every single code I could think of, with 0000 and 1234 as my first two. No dice.

You can program the memory functions yourself, but the engine immobilizer can only be done at the dealer (and the car wont start without it). $150 for key + programming sounds alright.

If the price from that website - or anywhere else - is much cheaper check to see if that's for the blank key or a cut key. Acura will cut your key as part of the price you pay.

Thank you all for the suggestions

1) The HFL does not even let me get to the Phone setup, I am trying to look for ways to break the code to access the features of HFL.

@"dontTL'em'nothing" : Unfortunately the key has blocked the whole setup.

@"FamilyGuy" : Does programming a new FOB immobilize the engine? Or should I take the car to the dealer to activate the feature?

thanks in advance.

It's the other way around - you need to program a new FOB to prevent the immobilizer from immobilizing the engine. Otherwise the engine will turn all day long, but will never start. Last I heard, only the dealer can do the immobilizer programing.

I bought my TL used and never has this problem, I never got the old code from the previous owner also. If you lost just your remote then yes you can buy another FOB and reprogram it yourself check Vehix411.com for the DIY on how to reprogram 04-06 Acura TL key FOB.

You should not have any issues. I bought my car used and the owner had 3 phones previously paired along with 6 contacts.
I've paired probably like 20 phones to my car and cleared each setting several several times for the past 5 years.

You don't even need to pair your phone to clear the HFL settings.
To clear all settings:
"SYSTEM > CLEAR > OK" or something like that. I forget. But it's pretty straightforward.

Then when it's cleared...
"PHONE SETUP > PAIR > 0,0,0,0 [or whatever 4 digit pin you want]"
at this point your HFL will search for a BT device.
from here go to your phone and manually search for BT devices.
you should see "HANDS FREE LINK™"
from your phone, connect to HFL
from your phone, enter 0,0,0,0 [or whatever 4 digit pin you made with the TL]
at this point your wonderful TL will ask you to create a profile name for your phone.
VOILA BING BANG BOOM!
Donesies.

Side note, I believe the max number of phones you can have is 4. I never went past 3 at once... so I don't know for sure.

Not necessarily true. Some locksmiths are able to program it. In fact, there are a handful of tow-truck-drivers who know or are able to reprogram it themselves.
Kinda scary when you think about it.

My buddy lost his ONLY Honda Civic key at a club... dealership quoted 235 bucks plus 80 for towing the car to the dealership [315 before tax] just to get the car reprogrammed.
We called a private tow, he ended up getting 'his guy' to get a new OEM key, reprogrammed to the immobilzer and car for 80 bucks.

When i bought my 07, my HFL was also locked by previous owner, local Acura dealer tried to reset it and couldnt and ended up installing a new HFL unit for free of cost. ( car had about 27k miles and about 2 years old at that time.

I dont believe you can reset those yourself, dealership might be able thats a might. you can always work with service department and they might do it for free.
