Good 'ole Navi Problems

So I ran into the reboot problem last week but before the problem occurred my navi prompted a update which I thought was weird. After the update everything seemed fine but later in the day the navi kept rebooting the acura globe screen. So I don't know if that odd update had something to do with it or if my saxophone case which was in the trunk hit the disc drive in the back???

Moving forward I'm going to send back the drive to alpine to have it fixed but I was wondering if I take the drive out will the screen be completely inactive? Will the radio functions work properly? Can someone chime in quickly... thanks

not sure about the screen being inactive but you'll still have full use of your radio/cd the navi unit and radio unit arent dependent of each other

Thanks for the info!

One other question, will the "acura globe" screen stop rebooting over and over if I remove the disc drive? It's driving me crazy and I want it to stop.

Is Alpine the only company that can repair the disc drive? Has anyone gone elsewhere to have the drive repaired?

A few other members have taken their units to a radio service shop in New York, IIRC, which got the Navi working.

Did you try cleaning the Navi drive reader lens yet? If not, try that first-- see the DIY at: https://acurazine.com/forums/problem...errors-873489/.

If you pull the Navi DVD, the drive will stop trying to reload it, but IDK if the audio button or voice commands will still work.

I believe my problem is different from the reading disc error, my navigation just replays the "acura globe" main screen constantly. I'll have to look up this IIRC shop...thanks

Constant replay of the DVD frames is a disc reading error.

Try ejecting the DVD and cleaning the reading lens before spending $350+.

Just an update...

I performed the DIY for the read disc error, and it did not fix my issue. Although the navi came back on for about 3mins. then froze and finally went back to replaying the acura globe screen over and over. Even if I take the disc out from the drive once its already been downloaded the navi will keep playing the globe screen.

Another thing for those wondering if the drive is completely out you will have no function of the radio or navi it'll just show a blank screen...

Next option is to visit local electronic repair places and see what they can do, and also keep an eye out for drives people are selling. (ie. here and craigslist)

Its funny because I never used the navi at all but I'm just anal and want everything to work lol
