Going to face the subs forward. Any suggestions?

I just got the car back from the bodyshop and since my subs are out already I want to try something new. I tried this once before and it had no bass but I didn't seal the trunk off at all. Going to seal the trunk off with MDF.

I've decided I want to get the bass out of the trunk for good. Not only that but it's artificially boomy in the really low frequencies and I'm hoping this will make it more natural sounding.

For those that have done this, how did you go about sealing off the trunk and is it necessary to seal the rear deck off too?

How did you like the sound and how much output do you lose over the subs facing the rear?

im installing mine that way right now ill take some pictures when i get a chance.... I had it before with two G5 Subs now im redoing my system to be only one sub, got to heavy so... to me it sound much better that way and blends in perfectly and if im not mistaken louder aswell, and the best of all zero rattels. But you gotta make sure you seal it off very good.

That's what I wanted to hear, thanks. This will be my Saturday (and probably Sunday) project.

Almost forgot, should I get the subs as close to the seat as possible or leave a little room? What I'm worried about is accidentally creating a bandpass effect which will obviously be tuned completely wrong.

Best bet would be to create enclosures behind the seat (one for the box and one as an "extension" of the cabin. remove the stock sub and use it as your port for the front of the speaker (chamber behind the seat and in front of your speaker) I had a set up like this in my 03 TlS. I used an Idmax 10 in a free air set up and it was a natural clean bass. I also had Focal components in the doors. A super high end system. This car (my 08 S) is all DB. IDMAX SEALED with the same ARC AUDIO CXL2500 1050X1 facing the rear gate. Super bassy seeing as my hearing is shot (wonder why) and no point in spending all that money on sound quality. Just blurrs my vision now lol.

Didn't finish it today. But I did find out a potential problem.

Calculated my box size and it's 1.56 cubic feet per driver. I wonder if this may be why I've had a hard time getting it to sound right. Recommended is 1.25 cubic feet. Not sure if it matters that much in a sealed enclosure.

I'm warning you...it will act like an outta control bandpass enclosure...you need to address this issue by creating a bandpass enclosure...

Should be a spec sheet on a volumetric range of air space. Not .25 cubic inches but depending on the tuning you are going for. More space behind the speaker will ofter give you a subby bass as oposed to a smaller volume giving a tighter punchier bass.
