General Radar Detector Question

The instructions with my X50 Escort recommends mounting it so the back of the unit "touches the windshield". This would most certainly rattle rattle when hitting bumpy roads - is it really necessary? I will call the factory tomorrow to ask, but, thought someone would have an opinion first. TIA

doesn't need to touch. Although, you may need to play with the best mounting angle to minimze rattles.
