Front Speakers Swap

Hello Acurazines,

I'm planning on replacing my front door speakers with better quality ones. I have a 2005 base TL. I decided that two Polk Audio DB651 would be great for my car. I have three questions to those people that have done this before or have any information about swapping these speakers with factory speakers-

1. Do I have to buy any amps to support those speakers or are there amps that come with those speakers? like in the box with speakers? or, stock amps are enough?

2. Does DB651 speaker fit nicely in the factory speaker place? any mods that I have to do?

3. Finally, (to anyone who's got their speakers swapped with Polk audio :bubbarubb(any)) - How is the quality? is it noticeably better or same?

Any replies and suggestions will be more then welcome!

Thank you

Do a search on this, as this has come up many times and these questions have all been answered before. I did a quick search and found this right away: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-audio-bluetooth-electronics-navigation-94/has-anyone-upgraded-factory-speakers-590106/

As to your final question, decent after market speakers, when powered and installed properly will sound far better than any factory speakers ever will.

Just make sure when you are buying after market speakers you are getting the right ohms and you will be fine.

Thx guys for your replies... I was wandering if the Polk Audio speakers that I chose would play on my system (db651.. are 4ohms while oem speakers are 2ohms) or do i need to get amps for them?

Also where can I find measurements for the OEM front speakers? I just want to make sure polk audio will fit nicely.

I've looked into this to and if I've read correctly only go 4 ohms if you plan on amplifying them other than that stick with 2 ohms. I'm curious about the front door speaker size?

Im not a fan of HK speakers I would think if you want more sound and mid bass to use Focal, Mq quart, even Exile pro's.
I am changing my 2008 tl front speaker this week so I will let you know how they sound. Even PG comp are very very cheap on line and with a good amp say 100watts or more they will sound great

Twopu...

Thanks for reply. So you're saying that even thou speakers are 4 ohms I can still play them on 2 ohm factory system input? Would I lose power and bass?

I see...

Kg1961 what specific speakers you are planning to put in? model #? and how much is amp (100 watt)? You see I've researched couple sites and threads and found that Polk Audio db651 come with some sort of amps (its included in the box; two amps for two speakers) but the problem is that on ebay I can see pics of the box and you clearly see amps but in description seller doesn't say anything about them? so this is why I try to figure out the best way to make this easy installation and hopefully great outcome!!!
Btw, I've asked this before but no one seems to know.....How can I find measurements of our Esl Front speakers?

Btw I have information about those speakers.

http://cgi.ebay.com/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...m=250397734817

front and rear. Im not sure what I will do right now because I might get combo and I would probably need more watts for the amp...but if I go for only front speakers then I dont need that power.
-Please tell what amps would be great for 2 front speakers (by looking at the link I posted)
-And if I choose to go with combo what would be the best amp? and power? (guys I am not going to spend hundreds on the amp - so if there is something under $180 or something that would be great)

Thx for all of your help guys!!!

One correction:
DB651 - NOT 651s!
-6.5" 2 way coaxial loudspeakers
-Power Handling:
-RMS 60 watts/ Peak 180 watts
-F.R. 35Hz - 22 kHz
-Sensitivity 92 db
-Top mounting 1-5/8"
-Bottom mounting 2-5/16"
-Cutout diameter 5"
(I'm interested in these two speakers for the front door) what good amp will support them?
