First time amp and sub install questions

So I have a a JL 10w3v3 just sitting in my garage and I was able to borrow an amp from a friend of mines. I just want to verify whether I'm installing it right.

First I would take the stock sub wires and plug it into the LOC, and from the LOC, I plug the RCA cables into the amp, and then plug the JL sub into the amp. Then ground and power the amp. correct?

Also do I need to tap a remote wire anywhere? or should I just be fine without one?

sounds like your on the right path. depends on the amp if you need a signal wire or not.

I think you will need to disconnect the ANC microphone too or you will get awful feedback

ANC microphone? What's that? Sorry I'm noob to all this car audio stuff

I read through the owners manual and it says its not recommended to use loads under 4 ohms for a mono setup. But I can use 2 ohms for a stereo setup. And my sub is 2 ohms. Should I just refrain from the whole installation till I get a more compatible amp or would it still be okay to use the amp without damaging anything?

Just search for something like "anc removal" in the search function here. It'll pop up as it's common and you have to do it on the 07/08's. Simple task though..

What is the amp you're using? Everything you said is correct, but you will need a remote wire. Just add a "add a fuse" into Fuse #32 in the drivers side kick panel fuse box.

Im using a Lightning Audio S2.400.2.

You will eventually melt the FETs if you bridge that amp at 2 ohms. You will have to read the manual and see if you can use just one channel in stereo - some can, some can't.

Even if you have to get a new amp, there should be plenty of cheap, available options for you.

You can run that amp, but you'll only be getting like 100-150 or so @ 2ohms

Would it cause any harm to the sub or the amp if I do that?

Make sure that amp is good running only one channel before you do it. Some are, but some are not. The issue is that the main power supply can easily handle the load for just one channel (since it was designed to handle 2) and if the single side is not regulated to not just "take" all of that power, then they can get overrun and melt. This was not a high quality amp, so who knows how much protection was built into it.

If you don't want to risk it, just get a cheap D class monoblock since most all of these go to 2 ohms and you only need 300-400 watts.

Yeah I really don't want to risk it damaging anything especially since this is a cheap quality amp. I'm probably just gonna save up and pick up a JL 500/1.

Are there any downsides to picking up a used one instead of a new one? I understand that you should smell the used amp and if it smells burnt, it has probably been used incorrectly and damaged.
