Question Firmware, Should my 8/2004 V710 be reprogrammed?

Firmware, I seen alot of talk about this.

Does my phone need to be updated?

What ways will it improve the operations of my phone?

Do I need to go back to the store to have this done?

Are most stores familiar this type of updating?

Thanks

I went to my local Verizon store- Route 202 in Bridgewater, NJ- to have my software upgraded to 8700_01.40.OR for my Motorola V710. They weren't able to upgrade the software so they gave me a brand new phone. The cell phone was purchased October, 2004- it had the new camera, but lacked the new software. The new software displays battery life and signal strength on the display of my car.

Here's a copy of a posting I had on a different thread. If you want the new features get your phone upgraded.

AND, no you don't need to go to the store you purchased it, but it's a good idea to do so- client loyalty, etc. Every Verizon store would certainly know about the upgrade available.

I just bought my v710 not long ago. Just last week verizon called me up to talk to me about my new service and features. There is a software update feature you can do to your phone by dialing *228. It downloads and upgrades something. I'm not sure if its firmware. I cant tell cuz my phone probably already had the new firmware. Does anyone know what it downloads and upgrades? If it is firmware, then it would be much easier and quicker than going into the store.

*228 updates the cellular towers and romaing areas. It does not update the firmware. In order to update the firmware you must go into a VZW store.
