Factory Nav/CD and Cassette issue

i have a 2006 tl, i intended to replace the cassette with a dvd player w/aux imput. but was told by 2 different stereo shops that this is impossible to perform if i wanted to retain/keep my OEM navigation working. resulting in a small nav screen out of easy sight and a large screen (factory) useless. was also told this problem would still exist if the new nav(dvd) system was not used, attempting to keep the OEM nav operational. they suggested that an aux cable could be installed by ripping out my center console and placing a aux imput behind the factory unit for about $270/300 depending on product, leaving me still with a worthless and ugly cassette player. what to do???
