Esotar 1200 should I pull the trigger?

I'm seriously sick in the head but I've been thinking of doing a trio of these subs IB for a while now. I love my IB15s and probably won't sell them but I get the itch for change once in a while and it would be neat to run a complete Dynaudio setup. I found one for $850 on DIYMA which is half retail cost.

I'm torn because with the 3 of them I would lose a little displacement, especially in the linear range and they may or may not sound better than what I have. The IB15s would be very hard to beat. I think I'm going to have a listen to a pair of 1200s IB in a TL this coming weekend if everything works out. Hopefully that will help to make my decision.

Any opinions? On the pros I would have a complete matching set of speakers, arguably the best SQ sub on the planet with good output as well. Not that important to me but it's very good looking, especially the part you will see in the trunk.

The cons are the price and the fact that I've never been so satisfied with a sub as I have been with the IB15s, no need to change other than I'm bored. Two IB15s will have significantly more output in the linear range and more total output as well. Right now I hardly ever push them anywhere near the limit though.

Even if I sell both IB15s for the same price I paid new (which is easy) it would pay for less than 1/4 of an e1200.:tomato:

After writing this I'm leaning more toward not buying the 1200s. BTW, this one would be put away until I collect the trio.

Just did the math. I would be losing 11% total displacement and 60% displacement at xmax. I can live with 11% but the 60% bothers me.

Put the money into a retirement fund and thank me later.

Your illness is progressing

Matt, as your "dealer", I think I'll stay out of this one....lol! You know the reviews and you know the price (and your budget). Although I would be able to do an extra special deal, it will still be a lot.

Keep the IB's and invest for sure. Of you're bored, try to do some cool stuff with the install like plexiglass or something. Sell ms-8 & go bit.1?

Sounds like you need a bigger car to carry everything in. Im happy with a single ten but thats just me.

Resource stocks if you must put money somewhere

Do not get the Dyn. It's not worth the coin and I think matching a sub with speakers is overrated. You're better off swapping that MS8 for a BitOne and going to tune town.

err... I mean... by all means go for it and sell me the IB15's!

You answered your own question that is in BOLD. What you said yourself would be the deciding factor (to me). I'd keep the 15's you have in IB and leave the rest of the system the way it is. You did a lot more work to mount speakers/subs.

In all honesty, if I were to change anything to try, I would swap processors.

Keep the ib 15's

Focus on other areas

They're down to $800! I was really hoping someone would buy this sub before payday. Too late. I might go for it but it's going to be a paper weight for several months at least.

My brakes are supposed to have been shipped today making the car road worthy again, would it be possible to hear yours for a few minutes next week (if the sub hasn't sold yet)?

You guys are right. The MS8 is really holding things back right now, both the subs and front stage. Right now I let it do time alignment and when it goes into the auto eq portion I cover the mics so it applies no eq and it actually sounds better like that. For a couple months now I've done the calibration with the subs unplugged so my pair of 15s don't sound like the stock sub. There's no doubt a different processor would help sq tremendously. Just recently a guy from DIYMA was passing through town and wanted to hear the system mostly to hear the IB subs. I tried a quick calibration right before he arrived and what a mistake. I didn't have time to unplug the subs and what I ended up with was a pair of 15s that literally had less impact and SPL than his single 8" in a sealed box on low power. I literally almost threw the MS8 across the parking lot.

However, I've been wanting this sub for a while now and it's getting worse lol. I will buy one of these this year even if it's not this one.

Trunk Monkey 04-06-2012 08:23 PM

Is the MS-8 really that much of a hassle?? I like the simplicity of the 3sixty.2, but there's no way to go with a 3-way front stage which is annoying. The new ARC PS-8 looks pretty slick, but it's new so I would go with the Bit.1 in your position.

I'm sort of in the same boat as you, but the other way around. I currently have one esotar 1200 running IB...but it's just and it's not enough output for me. I just bought (and finally received) two AE IB 15's (now the SPB 15's). But now that I have them, not even sure that I can fit them and still have a solid frame around them.

Bigger issue is that I just don't know if IB can give me the "kick" that I'm looking for that sealed boxes afforded me. The esotar is stupid smooth and organic and you can hardly tell it's there, in a good way. But I want the ability to get my ass kicked by the sub as well. I want to know if that's still possible while going IB. Do you feel that you can find that style of output with your two IB 15's? Any input you can give would be great, as I'm totally at a loss for what to do next with my install. Thanks!!!

PS Was it you that ended up buying that 1200 for $800? I was eyeing it too. Just tried PMing you, but I'm a new member, so don't think it went through.
