Dynaudio 342 installed...
The scary thing is he's told several others there is no money to refund. I understand he's going through a hard time, we've all been there but i've found 4 years worth of empty promises and broken due dates. I just hope the wait is worth it. If there was any form of communication I would try the upgrade but it could take months just to strike up a deal. I don't want to be one of the 9 month late orders that I've found.
If communication is gone, I would just file a complaint with your CC company, if you used one, and get your money back. I would not trust to hope with this guy.
I am in for install pics, especially of the 3.5s. They will sound better in an enclosure, so you sound should only get better.

Yeah, can't wait to get the kicks for them. Until then no passengers are allowed in the car.I paid AE through Paypal, not sure what my options are. John (the owner) replied back to me so they're still communicating, just being very vague.
If you paid using your PayPal balance or bank account, you would have to go through PayPal, it you paid with PayPal but used your credit card, you can still go directly through your credit card company for the dispute. They override PayPal and are on your side 100% since you are their customer. Just a FYI. However, there is a time limit on disputes, I believe 60 days from your statement showing the charge or something like that. You may be stuck just hoping. If you do get them, the wait should be worth it (as far as what I have heard).
If the AE doesn't work out, there are some Elemental Design subs that work in the IB. I am still considering doing this but not willing to pay 80% more because of shipping and duties, so I am looking for dealers in Canada and that brand popped up. People have nice things to say about them so it's worth a look.
I don't believe the factory grill is causing it per say. I would try putting foam around the speaker and try to get it to seal some to the door pan when the panel is on. The point is to direct the sound through the grill so as not to have too much getting lost between the door and the panel. Could help your rattle problems also.

I haven't read anything about their customer service so I can't deny what you are saying. I just threw that out there as an option. They do have sound deadening material tho that people like (again nothing negative I read) and it's a lit cheaper than other stuff.
Has there ever been a bad review of a IB sub? If so, the I missed it - sorry. If not, then either they all are awesome or the people reviewing them don't know what they are talking about. Either way, you really don't have any real reason to pick one over another.
Get one, or two, from a good company and call it a day.

I'm pretty much decided on going with the Flatlyne 15 unless I find out some new info in the next couple weeks. Don't have the time to wait for AE and their lies.
Back to the Dynaudios... I drove into work instead of riding the van pool so I got 45 minutes each way to get a good feel for them. I realized something great about these speakers. Since I've been old enough to drive I'm always analyzing the system and trying to pick out what's wrong. It annoys me that I do this by accident instead of just enjoying the music. I figured it would be even worse with these great speakers but it's not. I find myself just enjoying the music and forgetting that the speakers are there and I think it's because for the first time I can't pick out anything wrong with them.
I backed off the gains on the sub so that the headunit adjustment can more finely tune it. I was going between off and one tick from off. Now I run it nearly halfway so that each increment is much finer. I can't believe I used to run so much more power to the sub.
Oh, PM box is cleared out...

ms-8 question
I saw a thread on here of a DYI doing just an MS-8 install with factory set-up but i cant find it.... anyone know where that is? I was thinking of just installing this for now since money is a little tight.
Whats your opinion on just installing the MS-8?
and niebur3 can you get it cheaper than amazon?
thanks

Just a small update... Installed the MS8 over 2 weeks ago. Took a step backwards at first but two steps forward in the end.
Running them active obviously...... and loving it. I did not experience any of the usual complaints about the Dyn passives. In fact, they sounded very good on the passives but maybe I didn't feed them enough power to bring out the problems. Still not sure there really are problems with them.
So here's what I started with when they were passive on the stock crossovers:
80hz@12db 900hz@6db on both ends, 3,500hz@6db for the mid and 3,500hz@12db on the tweeter.
I ended up with:
Midbass- 70hz@18db/700hz@24db
Mid- 700hz@24db/3,850@24db
Tweeter- 3,850@24
I played with other frequencies but the sound just kept getting better the lower I crossed the midrange over. I'm tempted to try 600-650hz on a 24db slope but I don't want to end up with an expensive paperweight. I usually don't listen to them that loud though and I have less than 75 watts going to them so it may work.
Still loving these components. They sound great on everything. I've had people comment on how clear they are that are not into car audio and did not know I had changed things around.

So how much have you spent on the system thus far?
Counting sound deadening, not counting my screwups..... Roughly $3,600. But that's buying everything new except for the sub amp. That's also with the IB15s, add a hundred for the 12W6. If I get the HD900/5 add a lot more.
Glad I did my own install at least.
Now that I bought my Dyns, I've found two sets of barely used Dyn 342s for sale.
Hopefully nothing. I already feel guilty about the time and money I've put into them but I only used overtime money so it didn't really make a difference in the finances.
There have always been little small things in my past systems that I didn't like. They never seemed that big in the beginning but they eventually annoyed me enough to upgrade. The infinities had no midbass and were too bright. The IDs had ok midbass but no detail in the midrange and the tweeters would get harsh at high volumes (probably the crossovers). With the Dyns, there is nothing whatsoever I can pick out that I don't like. They play the music exactly how they're supposed to, I don't know what more to say about them. For the first time, I have a system that sounds as good to me as any of the SQ cars I've listened to.
Getting ready to hook up a center channel straight off the MS8. Hopefully that's enough power because I don't want to buy another amp for just the one channel.
I only wish I had discovered the infinite baffle configuration sooner. The single 12w6 is more than enough for SQ use but I'm still waiting on the two IB15s to get here. Once they're installed I'm done finally.
I hope the MS8 satisfies my tinkering to prevent me from changing any equipment.

Tuff question answered easy, PHASS, I know I'll get shit for this and there are a few products out there that constantly win all the competitions,(hybrid tech) But PHASS hands downs are Hi-End and very expensive like the esotar2, Win I tore out the dyn's, the PHASS turned out to be the best choice for my install. I do miss the dyn's because they where loud and loud is nice sometimes but for me the quality in the esotec was not good enough, I need more detail, a lot more detail, Truly in audio you dont realize what your missing until you see the amount lost in off the shelf products.
I do have a new set of Hybrid L6SE L3SE L1proV1, with Jerry's kicks for the mid, just to experiment and see how good Hybrid is, a 1400 experiment, I may like the Hybrid more, dont know yet. PHASS is several hundred more, and rightfully so, Alnico mags and built by Hi-end audio craftsmen,
Dont take any of this as a kick to dynaudio, Its good stuff, Its a top consumer item, The Esotar is way beyond the quality of the esotec and that was nearly the choice I made 14-15 months back, I'll be the first to say with the 2 New modded TRU amp's 2200S & 4100S its unbelievable and getting better as these break-in, John at TRU really went all out on these 2 amps.

I think I remember seeing yours for sale when I was doing my research. They surprise me each time I get in the car especially if I forget they're in there and turn the radio on without thinking. Yesterday I left my dome light on all day and when I got to my car it would barely turn over. The only thing going through my head was not how I was going to get home but hoping I could find my radio code if the battery went too dead lol.
I've been driving slower, just enjoying the drive and listening to the new system. When I get home I'll sit in the car and finish whatever song I'm listening to.
Out of curiosity, what did you not like about the Dyns? I'm always trying to learn more.
