DVD MP3 Disc?
Is it possible to burn a bunch of MP3s on a DVD and have the unit read it on an 07 TL?
I'm finding that I don't have enough space on a CD to fit all the songs that I want!

The TL's stereo will not read a DVD unless it's in DVD-A format. So it's not possible to put MP3 files on a DVD. It will spit it out with a format error.

This is possible. Someone made a program that will burn DVD-A discs on the forum. It's actually just at the bottom of the posts if you scroll down a bit:

Thanks for the help everyone. I guess I have to stick to CDs then. On an offshoot, do any of you know if a CD-RW will work? (I highly doubt it, but it would be awesome!)

But, if you use my scripts you will actually get less songs on the DVD-A since they need to be converted to wav prior to burning. So you will only get about 80 songs per DVD-A (on a single layer DVD-R). Depending on you mp3 encoding you might get hundreds on a CD that the 07 TL will play.
If you are into mp3s then the best bet is probably an iPod (or similar) directly wired to your HU. I think the 07 even has an input jack for it. Then you get thousands of songs in the car (or anywhere) without burning a thing. The best part about that is it frees up the HU for 6 really cool, multi-channel DVD-As !

mp3's can only be burned to cd's if you want the 07 TL to play them...there's no such thing as an mp3 dvd...only mp3 cd...
and i can get about 120 songs per mp3 cd...how many songs are you trying to burn to one disc, pika? 120 songs is plenty for me on one disc...
and i wouldn't use a cd-rw to burn my mp3 discs...the compatibility isn't as great as cd-r discs is....so i just stick with cd-r discs when it comes to burning music...

I have tested both DVD and CD-RW on my 07TL.
DVD's won't play.
CD-RW will play
I like using the mp3 over DVD-A because of the track info supplied on the MP3.
I've also copied a few CD's and, even if the original CD didn 't contain CD-TEXT, Nero will supply that info when I copy so I get song and album info on copied (for backup pruposes only) CD's, works well with compilation CDs as well, sweet

As for DVD, the only support is DVD-Audio disks. Although many songs can be placed on each disk, this is not to be confused with MP3 DVD disks. MP3 disks are basically data disks that contains MP3 files, whereas DVD-Audio (similar, but different to DVD-Video) is a very structured data disk containing certain file types (AOB, IFO, BUP, etc) in the AUDIO_TS directory. With the help of Adobeman's programs, you can convert your MP3 to DVD-Audio format.
As for media types, I have had no problems using CD-Rs and CD-RWs in both the headunit and navi DVD drive (for navi hacks). DVD-Rs tend to be more compatible than DVD+Rs. I don't remember if I've tried DVD-RWs yet.

So it appears both ways yield about 7.5 hours per disc:
DVD with 4.7 GB = 7.15Hrs
CD w/ MP3's, 120 songs = 8 Hrs
Stick in 6 discs and you've almost got enough music to get you across the country!
