I May be about to buy an '07 TL with nav and the DVD drive/disc needs to be repaired/replaced.

i've searched a bit and am curious...I use my iphone for navigation so i dont plan on using this 5 year old system for it anyway, but can i run the radio and the rest of the alpine computer system while the disc drive is being repaired or can i just disconnect the drive so it stops giving me the disc read error (during my test drive) before i get it fixed or does this have to be functional for the whole in-dash computer to work...i havent even heard/controlled the radio in the car yet and this problem is part of the deal on the car that is bringing the price down for me, except i know it's not a $2k repair unlike the hyundai dealer the car is at.

 

if you disconnect the dvd drive from the trunk
youre gonna lose your upper display for your audio.

 

^ yup, i recently had to send my unit in for repairs as well. once disconnected the screen will be blank. but you can still listen to music and whatnots.

 

Can this be covered under warranty if it happens occassionally??? but works most of the time

How many miles are on it? You may be able to get Honda to goodwill a replacement unit. Mine went bad at 70,000 miles and they good willed it for me.

 

Our 2007 MDX had same issue at 83k. Out of warranty and no goodwill from dealer in Peoria. $500 to get it fixed back in 2/2011. Now doing same thing. Very disappointed in Acura quality. Previous owner of accord and CRV. Are you guys staying I can take this to a stereo shop for repair? Alpine??
