Question DTS Dropouts

Can anyone shed some light on the quality problems I'm having with some DTS material ? During playback in the TL the DTS disks that I've recorded have dropouts or loud pops and clicks in them. The source seems to play fine on the PC using the VLC player http://www.videolan.org/ but I need to keep experimenting.

Playing a DTS disk in a normal stereo sounds like interstation FM noise. The pops sound like that kind of noise. It sounds like it is slipping into regular 2 channel playback mode and you hear the noise for a brief second then back to 5.1.

Many people have reported the same problem, with both home-made and commercially produced DTS CDs. There is no resolution that I am aware of.
