I know ive read many threads about this but i wondered who all has done it. who has replaced their factory sub? what type of sub? did you use the factory amp or aftermarket?

i guess my decision is this. Use my current jl 250/1 amp and 10w6 in a slot ported box which will take up the back corner or my trunk or get an 8" in the stock location with the same 250/1 amp. i know i will need to use a LOC and sound deaden the rear deck.

my gut shaking bass days are over but i would like more thump that what the factory sub has. so how much output can i expect with the 8" replacement and 250/1 amp?

thx

the 10W6 is good for bass clarity. Remove the 8" stock sub and use the 10W6, just keep it at a low level. You will get the clarity you desire and without the "gut shaking bass" if you just keep the bass at a low level on your head unit.

the whole point of the 8 is to use the stock location. with the 10 i would have to lose trunk space.

Trust me I'm running a 12W6 Using Uncald4's Custom Fiberglass box, and all the space that I am taking up is the nook right opposite the navigation DVD player in the trunk (the nook thats on the driver side in the trunk). Your 10W6 will take even less space. Its very minimal, and will sound 1000 times better than putting anything into the stock opening, cuz you would need an open air sub

I read the above thread, and now I am really interested in replacing my factory sub. I went to www.crutchfield.com and read reviews for 8" subs, seems to be a lot of votes for the MTX and the JBL subs (not having to spend a ton of $$$). The JBL 8" sub for $79.99 has great specs and will work in a very small enclosure (the factory location).
Once you pull down the trunk protector and then "plug" up the holes there, plus some Dynamat.........I wonder if this would be an inexpensive solution to increase BASS in the TL?
Any thoughts on this?
Has anyone done this using JUST THE FACTORY AMP/STEREO??

i've done the stock location and then ended up giving up the trunk space to a sealed box 12"

the stock location (in my buid thread) was loud, but it could not hit low and sharp
it was always more on the ear plugging side rather than the gut punching

so, my vote based on my personal experience goes to the boxed trunk setup

i'd take that over the first post on the forum being something like "i just bought an 18" sub, will it fit in the stock location?" or "how does one replace rear door speakers?"
