The dreaded nav disc error...what to do?

alright so it's become apparent that i'm another person with a failing navigation unit. i have scratches on the outer perimiter of the nav disc and all the symptoms lead me to this conclusion. (error message on nav screen/scratches on disc)

i know that people have to send their unit's to alpine for $150 or something to get them fixed...but has anyone ever figured out the cause of this ongoing problem? anybody brave enough to attempt and fix the issue yourself?

i'm under the acura-care warranty...should i just let them deal with the problem or will they not touch it?

thanks for any help!

^i haven't tried a diff. disc...but the thought did cross my mind.

what happens is the mechanism inside the nav drive produces a uniform scratch all the way around the disc itself as it's spinning. so...something inside the unit needs to be tweeked. i just don't know what it is yet.

yours is probably going to start to fail again as well. it's only a matter of time before the scratches appear on your new nav disc. keep an eye on it over time. i would check mine out everytime the error message popped up, it got increasingly worse each time i checked.

now my nav will boot up for a second and then crash out shortly after. really annoying

^t'word son.

i feel like the majority of nav drive issues are on 07-08 models...from what i've read.

i'm just trying to avoid ripping it out of my car and sending to alpine for god knows how long and spending $158 you know?

what's their address anyway? contact info? i want to speak with them about their process here...
