Why do you want to replace the OEM Headunit?

Op....those that have done it, have done so as a one-off to fit their own specific equipment. I know I would not build one without the car in my possession. Unfortunately, this aspect of our cars is not easy.

You will have to make mods to the metal trims on the center console.

To be honest, that part is fairly easy. The hard part is modding some plastic to match an opening of whatever head unit you are using while have a curve across the front and a downward curve at the top and bottom to mesh perfectly with all the pieces that are still there. Lots of hand made on-off pieces in mine for it to look factory when finished.

And that doesn't count the circuit work I did to split the HVAC screen so it's looks completely factory, WHILE putting in a HU with a motorized face and leaving only the minimum required spacing around the face! Lets just say everything had to be within the millimeter. It was not fun! But love the results!

Very nice!

Is that carbon fiber wrap on the metal trims on the center console?
How well do they match the metal trims on the dash & door panels?

Oh, didn't know that. How is the rest of the carbon fiber you have installed on your center console holding up?

I had a choice of doing the same as you, paint the console metal trims. But I liked the factory aluminum wrap too much...so didn't go that route.

It's been four years, I got used to those "half circles" now.

You get what you paid for!
That just means you'll get a professional looking job.

Here is what a professionally custom made double din would look like. Has all the qualities niebur3 talked about.

I preferred to leave the factory aluminum wrap alone, after 4 years...I got used to the half circles.

Dropped the car off while I went for vacation. My cousin custom made the double din trim, power coated it to match the center console.

Installed bluetooth, iPod, USB modules; PAC steering wheel control interface. Rear view camera so well hidden that you have to kneel down in order to see it.

Is your tl non navi?? If so did your cousin have to do anything with the temp screen?

That is not an accurate statement at all. nothing wrong with the way the headunit sounds at all. your perceived poor sound quality must be something downstream from the HU, or perhaps your source material.
