Dom's Unit!!! Need Your Help

Guys,

I am having a bunch of trouble that I need your insight on. I am having a reputable installer in Morristown NJ install the following:

Ilink Valor
Doms Unit PNP
PIE X3
Ipod Video

last week they began the install and there was something wrong with Dom's piece. After hundreds of dollars later(on the install), Dom sent over a new piece.
Now the problem is that the PIE device and the Ilink work just fine. However when the installer trys to play video on the ipod, there is nothing in the folder to play. Then when you try to switch back to the navi, nothing comes up. I had my guy call Dom and they walked him thru a bunch of steps. My guy thinks that the unit is shoddy. Now I dont know how reliable Dom's unit is but does anyone have any ideas cause this is costing me TONS of money to install and for both the installer and Dom to say we just dont know, doesnt help me. It seems last week I was having a problem getting the valor & ipod to come up with Dom's piece, now I cant get Dom's piece to shut off. It seems that the switch isnt working!
HELP ME PLEASE

Print out these threads and have your installer study them. Dom's PNP was a painless install for me.

DIY: Backup Camera with Dom's TVandNav2Go PNP Install

Diy: Dom's Pnp W/ Pictures!!!

Double check the ground wires and make sure all connections are making contact.

I don't know how to test the iLink, but you can test the PIE by connecting your iPod (or any other media player) via 8mm to RCA cable.

Dat,

If I get the car back today is this something that a novice could do? Or should the dealer do it?

This was my very first car install. Just research and get everything you need so you can be well prepared before starting.

You can do it!

Dat,
I was able to get everything setup. And I think I am running into a problem with Doms piece. Im guessing it is the same thing the installer was running into. When I use the Valor piece to read my video Ipod it is no problem. Shows up fine on the navi screen. however when I use the switch from Dom's piece which is supposed switch it back to the Navigation, it just stays on the Valor screen. In order for me to use the navi I have to unplug dom's piece and go back to the straight navi plug in.

Any ideas as to why>

Looks like your manual switch isn't working correctly. Did you extend the wires to the front of the car? If so, check the connections and make sure nothing got loose.

I went to Radio Shack and bought a rocker switch to replace Dom's original switch. Thats something you could also try.

The PNP harness also has a black wire extending from it that needs to be grounded.

Good luck and keep us updated.

Dat,

I didnt do the install but I am assuming they did. the switch is under the drivers steering wheel and I see the black and red wires going up through the back seats up to the front ones.

Unfortunately Im not so good at the wires so I really have no clue about switching the actual switch. Any directions would be GREATLY appreciated.

Switching the switch (ha haa) is pretty simple. Assuming you have some extra wire slack, just cut the black and red wires from the original switch and reconnect it to a new switch. If you use the exact same rocker switch that most members are using from Radio Shack, the red will connect to the middle terminal and the black to the outer most terminal.

From my writeup, you can see that I used quick disconnects to connect the switch. This will allow me to update to a new switch if I ever need to without having to cut the wires again.

I would recheck all the connections of the Dom's unit. If they mounted the unit in the trunk, I would open up the trunk to make sure they've grounded the 5 wires (2 black, 2 white, 1 green), the wires to extend the switch is secure, and if you have a backup camera, that Dom's blue wire is connected to the reverse lights (or left disconnected if you don't). From this location, I think it will be easier for you to troubleshoot the problem.

Any chance you have a multimeter?

If you are in NJ why not take an hours drive and have Dom look at it.
