Disc Read Error

So, I live in Cambridge, Ontario and was on my way home from Cincinnati, on the approach to Detroit, when all of the sudden the navi screen dissapeared and was replaced with a gray box stating that there was a disc read error and I should contact my dealer. Perfec timing seeing as I75 is all torn up and I needed to take a half dozen detours.

Anyway, I would appreciate any help with the issue, if I can I would like to avoid having to pay my dealer to fix this. Now, I have popped out the disk and the disk is fine, not scratched or anything as far as I can tell.

Much appreciated, thank you!

it sounds like your dvd drive has failed, or is very dirty on the inside. How old is your TL? Under warranty? If it is, go to the dealer and have it replaced ASAP since the drive is over 3K and about 4K total with labor. If you are out of warranty you have a few options:

1. Clean the drive with a laser cleaner
2. Send the drive to alpine and have them fix it:

Its always good to search too to see if others have encoutered this problem:

the address for alpine is in this thread and so is the cleaning procedure

like I said before, alpine can fix it for you for around 150-180 dollars. Also you can go on ebay and buy them for around 500, and the install is pretty simple.
