Unhappy Dilemma

No so long ago, I happened to sell my navigation to a member who lives in Las Vegas. I offered him to do the installation for free so he could save some money so we planned the day. I was honest with him before i touched his car. I told him that i have done this before and that i had had a technical problem with my car couple months after doing the installation. I also let him know about a member who lives in las vegas as well, and who also happend to have the same kind of issue. He said that if we follow martin's instructions everything should be ok. Anyway, i spent almost the entire day at his palce working on his car. After i was done, we test the navigation and everything seemed to be working just fine until later that night. For unknown reasons, the airbag light came on. He seemed to be a bit upset about it. I felt i was being blamed for what was happening which i really don't understand. I followed martin's direction, i did the installation myself in my car and didn't had this problem, i read byzrice's thread, and we even called martin to see if there was another way around to install the navi voice command buttons because i didn't want to remove the steering wheel airbag. Martin told us what to do, so i did what he said.
The member who bought my navi said that he has had this airbag light come on before and that he had it taken care by acura couple month ago. He also said that probalby i did something wrong because the light wasn't on before the installation. this is true but until later that nate it came on. I would like to point out that I haven't touch any of his car's airbags at all during the installation. what do you guys think is causing the problem? has anyone had the same issue? I don't know but probably he would make me pay acura to have this fix.
I don't mean this in a bad way, i know people in the usa like to sue each other and this is the last thing i want. So i was thinking about giving him his money back, get my navi system, and then pay acura to have this fix.
I just learned today that helping people is not worth it.

Helping people is worth it. Sounds like you want to do the correct thing. Hopefully someone will chime in with a suggetion on the air bag light.

If the airbag light has come on before you touched it, it's obviously unrelated to your work. Therefore, not your fault. If he tries to do anything, just get the paperwork from Acura where it shows he had that issue fixed or something. Sounds like the typical guy that wants everything done for free or "on the side" and when it doesn't go his way it's everyones fault but his.

^..some people just cannot be helped.

Treat him like your an insurance company.
pre-exisiting conditions will not be covered.

You'll learn that "nice guys" dont finish first. It sucks but, thats the reality of things. Sometimes making the person THINK your an asshole goes a long way.... maybe thats my nyc business sense chiming in.

Reminds me of the time when I helped a guy install a turbo kit. He took it out of the garage for the first time to do the test drive and beat the hell out of it without any tuning on the new ecu. Blew the engine. I felt bad for the guy, but we warned him to be gentle. Lucky for the guys that helped him out, he realized it was his own fault.

Experiences like this don't make me want to stop helping people, but it does make me want to give them a waiver before I get into anything complex.

Did you remove the seats or anything that has an airbag attached and turn the car on to test the navi?

My SRS light came on as a result of doing that. I simply used the jumper trick on the underdash fuse panel to reset it.

I won't help anyone I don't know anymore either. Too many people just don't take the assistance for what it is and want to hold you responsible. Our society is full of sue happy people and it's just not worth the hassle of dealing with them.

Thanks guys for the comment. Now that i remember he said the airbag light came on month ago becuase there was some kind of problem with the buckle.

He disconnected the battery before i started working on his car, so the entire time, i worked on his car with the battery off.

When done I put everything back and then we both tested the navi- I made sure that everything was connected the way i found it. only thing that was related to the airbag was the pillar trim on the passanger side. Martin emailed him pictures of how to do it, i got the same pictures from Martin when i bought the navi and did what he said and no problem with airbags whatsoever. Btw, I only removed the trim, didn't touch the airbag and none of the seats were taking out of the car.

A friend of mine thinks that maybe the light just tripped and it just needs to be reset.

Wish i had asked about if his car has had any type of issue before i worked on it. Problems he has were relatated to the eirbag, engine light, and something else. Hopefully he wont blame me if something else happens to his car

Well he has no proof you installed technically lol. But it sounds like his problems are non-related to the navigation install. Is this guy on here?? Sounds like he needs to get on here and figure out what could be the problem on his own or take it to Acura, like he already did, and get it fixed again.

Honestly hate to say it, but it sounds to me like if this guy has had issues with the airbag before, he is looking at this as an opportunity to make you feel bad for it, making you think you caused the problem and hoping that you will cave in and pay to have the problem fixed permanently for him.
