Question/comment

I have the Dice silverline R4 with my 04/TL Navi. I have a new 80gig classic running firmware 1.1.1. PC.
When a call comes in (bluetooth) the Ipod is 'muted' in the car but it does not pause. I know this cause I had my earphones in the IPOD while it was connected to the car and I could here the song in the earphones. The sound was muted from the car stereo (replaced by the phone audio). Is there something I need to do to cause it to pause when a call comes in? If not, no biggie, the outstanding sound from the IPOD over the ELS far outways this nuance.

The unit was not programmed for pausing to enable when a phone call comes in, but the radio automatically does the muting.

In regards the the startup problem..
I have a 07 TL type S. I am currently on my 3rd Dice Unit, all of which have had the startup problem on CDC Mode only. The unit seems to work perfect on Text mode..

I really really do not like the behavior of the stereo in Text mode (having to press and hold the steering wheel button to change tracks). I find the CDC mode much faster to respond.

I wish the unit would not have the startup issue on CDC mode, but until I get that fixed (which looks like it wont happen) i have to use Text mode

Unless there is a way to remap the keys for the Text mode to respond more like the CDC mode...that would be nice!

Does the new Silverline Unit have any updates that would help the startup issue? I would gladly pay a small "upgrade" charge to get a unit that works as advertised!

As long as you're using an older iPod, or the new iPod touch this can work. You can put the DICE Silverline i-Honda-R4 into iPod MODE. This means that you'll have no TEXT but your iPod will be completely open and unlocked. If you ever change your mind and want to ditch XM for TEXT it's just a matter of flipping 2 switches on the DICE module and unplugging your XM.

Word?

I now have the Dice R4 Silverline instaled in my 06 w/ Nav using an iPhone. I am pretty happy with the unit and the sound but there are some quirks I thought I would mention. I am hoping either Adam@Dice or any other here who has the same config can confirm if my units quirks are simply issues with the unit itself or perhaps the way some settings (dipswitch) are configured.

I had the unit installed professionally but the folks who put it in had little to no experience with this particular unit. Point here is that I didn's set any of the dipswitches myself and do not know how they are set.

The XM has been disabled and I am using that mode so I can have Text display.

Quirks:

1. At startup, the iphone will always play the first song of the lowest alphabetic album. (Abandon - Deep Purple). I can live with this but I am sure I am going to be sick of that track in a few more weeks.

2. More often than not, none of the selected scan/search modes except "playlist" work properly. Selecting album or artist as a scanning method only provides an option for the current album or artist and not any other. I typically have to either replug in the iphone or on occassion choose a playlist to play and then again try album or artist to search that way. This is the biggest issue so far

3. I noticed that selecting Foo Fighters plays the wrong tracks...in my case Beethoven....clearly an issue here and I am sure my mp3 files are appropriately tagged.

4. There is some lag between turning the nob and the iphone responding...I can deal with this.

My current theories are:

1. The Dice unit is simply not completely stable.
2. My dipswitches are not properly set
3. The installer failed to disconnect the XM in the back of the car somewhere. Obviously he did this behind the head unit but perhaps there is another connection that needs to be disconnected.
4. Some combination of the above

If anyone is experienceing the more serious issues or knows what the root of my issues are, I would appreciaite some help.

Gven the quirks, I am still happy to be able to use the iphone for music in my car and having it also charged.

Recommend to anyone still on the fence.

Wait...we can scan songs and playlists with the Dice unit by just pressing the button? I thought it was just there but not usable?

Oh shit, I have to check that out...you may now return to your regularly scheduled program...

I just hooked up the Dice R4 in my '07 TLS w/ Nav. The XM is completely unhooked in the trunk, all cables are hooked in up front, and the Dice is set to car mode. I'm using an 80gig iPod color. Playing from the nav works fine, but I have no control through the iPod. The screen on the iPod says Dice, scrolls the artist/song, and says "ok to disconnect" on the bottom. It's very important for me to be able to use the iPod to control, but I don't want to lose the text on the nav.

From what you're saying, it seems like the new iPod firmware v1.1.1 doesn't allow this. I'll try switching back to 1.0.3. Thanks for the heads up.

All in all I'm 50/50 with this unit at this point. Scrolling through songs using the dash is far to cumbersome, especially with 6K+ songs. The sound is great and I have iPod connectivity, but that's really the extent of it.

BTW, for those who don't know, the xm hookup is in the trunk on the right side. You have to pull out the right trunk panel lining. The xm unit itself is tucked up between the exterior side panel and the trunk panel. Unbolt the three screws holding it in, slide it out, and disconnect everything. I searched to try to find this info but couldn't. I ended up ripping my entire trunk apart to find it.

You can keep XM, but you will not have text when using the adapter. Only one or the other. To change songs within a playlist using the NAV screen, select #2 to get the playlist you want, then select #1 again to change the songs in that playlist.

Go back to the beginning of the thread to find the rest of the answers you seek, it has them all covered.

Yeah, you definitely have to have version 1.0.3 to do it, and don't forget to deselect "Auto updates" in your iTunes so it won't change it back! Don't forget also, that once you revert back to 1.0.3, you have to cut the car on/off a couple of times AFTER you first initialize the iPod with the DICE unit to get it to work on the iPod. Don't give up, just play with it. Once you get it, you will always have it until you disconnect the iPod. I keep mine connected unless I have to add songs (I leave it in my armrest). If I disconnect, it goes back after I cut the car on to initialize, then off, then back on and it is good to go everytime! You saw the pics right?

Thanks for the response. I'm in the process of downloading/downgrading my ipod now. By cutting the car you mean disconnecting the battery or just turning the ignition on off?

I haven't seen the pics, are they in a thread or can you send them? Thanks again.

Here is my post on how to do it (with pics):

https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...29&postcount=7

By disconnect, I meant to disconnect the iPod from the cable running to the module, not the battery! And yeah, where I said cutting on and off I meant the ignition.

1) Connect iPod
2) let it initialize
3) cut car off, then on again after a second or two
4) press menu button repeatedly on iPod, then let it go (like 5-6 times), and play with scroll wheel a few times, then wait for it
5) if it doesn't work, repeat it from step #3

As you can see from my pics, it works!

BTW...here is the full thread that came from so you aren't confused by the rest of the stuff in my post:

I'm using the iphone with the silverline kit, and I'm experiencing some of the same things you described.

1. always starts off with the same song. (unless I replug the iphone in a short period of time after, then it will continue to play the song the last song before it was unplugged)

2. I usually play the songs from my phone through the playlist option, selecting "iphone" (or whatever your iphone is named), which plays all songs in my iphone. I also select random on my ipod option so it always plays the songs in different orders, that way I won't get sick of listening to the same songs in the same order.

If I'm selecting a particular playlist/artist, I'd use the preset 3 to select the artist, then preset 1 to browse the songs by that artist. Same for playlist/album. Then to go back to playing all my songs in my iphone, I just hit preset 2 and select "iphone" and then back to preset 1 to change tracks.

3. I haven't had this problem so far.

4. Tiny lag, but not a big deal.

All in all, I'd have to say that I'm happy with the connectivity, sound, and being able to control and browse to any song/artist that I want to listen to.

Still couldn't get it to go. I tried the exact steps you gave (connect ipod, turn on car, wait for ipod to init, turn car off/on, wait for ipod to init, hit menu a number of times, repeated several times). The ipod stays on the blank screen.

I'm using the ipod classic 80gig just bought a couple days ago. I guess I'll chalk this up to dice compatibility issues with newer ipods.

It's not a DICE issue. It's an iPod issue. Apple released the new version iPods to lock out the user when plugged into any player or device. This includes the Classic, iPhone and 3rd Gen Nano. For some reason the new iPod touch is still using the older firmware which leaves the user interface open. Older iPod's will stay unlocked on most every player unless the player locks it for enhanced fuctions.

That iPod that you see in my picture is a Black Classic 80GB iPod that I bought in December. All I can think of is that maybe something is different about mine, must be. Try it a few more times man and remember that it is not necessary to disconnect the iPod.

I'll agree to some extent that it's an ipod issue. But I did revert the firmware on the ipod to an earlier version, which should then work unless it's a hardwired hardware lockout in the new ipods (which I doubt). Regardless of who's fault it may be, I was looking for a solution as advertised, paid good money for it, and got about 75% of what I was looking for. That being said, at least I have ipod connectivity.

Maybe some will do it and some won't. I was wondering if this was so when Nick first reported it won't. But I even did the reverse firmware and it works. Worked before when I first got the iPod, did the 1.1.1 it stopped working, went back to the 1.0.3, and now it works again...so there is light at the end of the tunnel for you. Hopefully someone else with the same setup as us will try it. Hang in there!

Has anyone confirmed that the 5.5 gen ipod fully works with the Dice? Text and full control of the ipod?

It works that way with the older DICE i-Honda-R4-gen2 kit. The new Silverline kit will lock the 5.5gen if you're using TEXT. If you're not using TEXT you can have full iPod control on the new Silverline kit while using a 5.5gen iPod. The Gen2 kits are no longer in production since the Silverline kit's have more/faster features.

I'm using my 5.5gen iPods on the DICE kit without TEXT because I'm keeping XM active. And, I like to have control of the iPod itself as well as steering wheel and radio controls.

Thanks for the response. So my next question is: which gen ipod will give you full functionality with the silverline kit? Or does the silverline lock all ipods?

Firmware Verision

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For ADAM@Dice or unclad4,

What is the preferable firmware verision with the Dice R3 on a 08 TLS? I'm using 1.1.3 on a second generation Nano, and 1.2.3 on a video IPOD. Sometimes they both fail to init on starting the car (I have to turn car off and restrart; IPOD stuck at INIT screen) Thanks in advance!!

By "full functionality" you mean TEXT, steering wheel ,radio and iPod control? No iPod will do this. Most interface adapter manufacturers are going to this new setup for a few reasons. First, the new iPods lock up no matter what. Second, all aftermarket decks using iPod cables will lock your iPod so that they can provide all the cool enhanced features and faster browsing. For the OEM integration companies to keep up they need to provide similar function.

This is an issue with the radio in the 2007/2008 TL-S and 2007/2008 RL. Honda is aware of the issue and there is currently no fix. Any changes you can make to the firmware or to the interface product will not fix this. There are a few scattered instances in other similar year Honda/Acura models but the two mentioned above are most common.

got my Dice in today and installed. very easy install. i put mine just under the heat seater switches in the center console. I chose to keep my ipod unlocked so i can select songs from there.

(interesting side note: as you can see my Glock 23 fits perfectly in the top part of the console. its just wedged in there but still easy to get out in a hurry.)

just a quick question. i just got my silverline dice in my 05 non navi TL. im using a 1st get nano with the dice set to keep my xm text and keep my ipod unlocked.

when i go to my songs on the ipod ive noticed that when i hit up button on my steering wheel instead of skipping to a random song, it goes to the next song by that particular artist! i just want it to skip around like the ipod does when you listen with earbud?

is this possible?

It is if you set your ipod to shuffle first.

Totally possible. You need to read the instructions. The section labelled "understanding the hierarchy of your iPod".

I'm considering ditching my current set up (a simple FM transmitter and an RF remote) for better sound quality. This would be perfect - I'm going out of town, but if no one has tried it yet with non-navi, I'll just order it and post my results in a few weeks.
I have non nav. TL and it does shows the play list songs and artist, not like the one w/nav but it's good enought.

i read it. so i should select the new playlist that the dice creates and then that will be in shuffle?

i noticed that if i just select songs from the ipod i will set it to shuffle songs repeat off but when i get out of the car and get back it it sometimes changes to shuffle albums or artist and sometimes turns repeat on.

is that normal?

Finally got mine installed!

Sup guys, I've been having the new silverline dice kit for a while now, but never got around to installing it. I was originally thinking of paying to get it installed but decided to do it myself with the do it yourself pdf posted in this forum. Overall it was a very easy install, I'm glad I didn't end up paying $60+ to get it installed. It took me about 1.5 hrs to install and reinstall everything and I didn't have any screws left over!

I finally knew what everyone was talking about when they mentioned the tight space to unplug and plug in the unit. Fortunately, I didn't struggle with this, nor did I use any tools. I plugged it in less than 5 minutes. The most difficult part for me was removing the trim because I was afraid I would break some of the retaining clips. I live in Chicago and it's been kinda cold so I needed to use extra caution...

Overall, I'm very satisfied with the product and would recommend it to anyone on the fence thinking about buying it! The sound quality is amazing, its so loud and clear and I tend to listen to my music pretty loud. I have the new Ipod classic 160Gb, I wasn't able to have control of the ipod while in text mode, but to my surprise I was able to have full control of the ipod in non text mode. It was my understanding that you couldn't control the ipod period with the new ipod classics. I'm on firmware 1.03, I don't want to upgrade either for fear of losing this functionality. I must admit, i jumped on this because of the ability to get text and control the ipod through the steering wheel, but the text mode is nice at first but its more of a novelty. It's not very functional when you have a ton of music like others have stated. The ability to control the ipod through the ipod or steering wheel while sacrificing text is worth the tradeoff. In my opinion, despite the ability to display text with the DICE unit, it's not aesthetically pleasing to look at so I can do without it. Just wanted to share my experience and thank everyone who has posted relevant information for the benefit of all the members!

I'm having the same problems as other people....my biggest annoyance is that every time I start the car up it resets the IPOD to either Repeat and/or Shuffle, so I have to manually set these to "off" every time I start.

What's the fix?

There is no fix. It's supposed to do that.

I'm confused. It's not supposed to remember the settings? Can you elaborate?

Thanks!

Any aftermarket type iPod adapter like the new DICE Silverline needs to have full control of the iPod. When the start-up connection is made your iPod goes through the initialization process. This process puts all your settings at ZERO so it has the same starting point everytime and so that all your browsing works correctly. Some aftermarket radio's like Pioneer and Alpine will then let you turn on shuffle and repeat from the deck. Honda's radio, however, is not that cool.

For an OEM add on adapter the DICE Silverline has far exceeded my expectations.

Interesting. So has anyone figured out a way to change the settings of the ipod itself so it defaults to "Shuffle Off" and "Repeat Off", or is everyone just living with this? I read something about changing the software/firmware version of the ipod...does that help? My ipod is a 30GB video model that is about 3 years old...

Sorry if this is common knowledge...I'm an IPOD novice :-)

Hi All,

After some trials and tribulations with the Dice setup, I've finally decided to return the unit as it doesn't give me what I'm looking for in an iPod solution. I'm not saying these problems are all due to the Dice unit; I'm sure the combination of Dice, iPod, and Acura radio are all to blame. But I'll wait until a unit comes out that gives me what I want, which is full iPod control through the iPod, iPod control through the dash, and text on the dash.

Below are the configurations I tried and the problems I ran into.

What I have:
2007 TL Type S with Nav
iPod 4th Generation 40 Gig (no video)
Dice Silverline R3/R4

What I've tried and the problems I've encountered:
  1. Text Mode with XM disconnected in the trunk. This gives me text and control from the dash but no control from the iPod. I have a very large collection (6000 songs). Controlling from the dash would be ok, but the control is very slow to respond and display text and it takes a long time to scroll to what I want to listen to. Even after setting up playlists, control from the dash is too cumbersome to scroll to what I need. This made it unusable for me.
  2. iPod Mode with XM disconnected in the trunk. The radio does not recognize the Dice. XM1 and XM2 are not available on the radio. I essentially can't use the Dice/iPod at all.
  3. iPod Mode with XM connected in the trunk. This gives me control of the iPod through the iPod but the XM signal mixes with the Dice signal (bleed through) striking this configuration from my tests.
  4. iPod and Text Mode (both car and ipod dip switches are on). The radio recognizes the Dice unit and I can control the iPod through the dash and through the iPod. I don't get text mode, but I can deal with that since I have full control of the iPod. This is the best setup I found for what I need. The only problem here is that every time I turn on the car the iPod resets itself to shuffle and repeat songs. This may seem just an inconvenience, but for me it makes the unit nearly unusable for short drives, which is what I primarily take. In effect, the unit becomes more of a hassle than it's worth.

I know others have had success with their setups, I can only guess that the components I have just don't add up to a configuration that works. The issues I ran into do not make the price of the unit worth it for me. I'll wait until Dice comes up with the next generation or iPod releases firmware that works.

Hit CD while in ipod mode, that's how you get the ipod working...at least for me. I had the repeat/non shuffle BS when using the girlfriends ipod nano- older edition. Now with the touch there is NO problems as of yet. overall to dice. Purchase from ebay- cheapest place to buy and A++ rating!
