Design Flaw Creating Whine in HFL
Design Flaw Creating Whine in HFL
Has anyone noticed a whine in the HFL that changes with engine speed? I started using my Treo 650 and noticed the noise and so did my callers. Recently at the dealership, I noticed that the noise appeared even when the phone was nowhere near the car. If you just press the phone button on the steering wheeling with the engine running, the whine can be heard through the speakers if the volume is high enough.
The dealer said that he had not heard of anyone complaining about that. This is obviously just a power isolation problem from the engine with either the HFL for the radio and has nothing to do with the phone. This is probably a design flaw that affect everyone that has a 2004+ TL. Has anyone else had this problem? Even if you do not use the HFL and would like to know if this would affect you, push the phone button on the steering wheel while the engine is running, turn up the volume and step on the gas. Please report back your findings! Thanks.

Yes, I have also noticed the whine with the HFL in my 04 TL. It may be caused by elcctro magenetic interference from the alternator. It may be possible to shield or filter the noise. I wonder if Acura has addressed the issue with the 05s.

Any TDMA variant including GSM will be more suceptible to noice like this. As my original post mentioned, this has nothing to do with the phone. This happens even when the phone is not paired with the unit. If you just hit the phone button on the steering wheel, the stereo will switch to phone mode and you can hear the whine change as you change the engine speed. This is a result of poor isolation from the ignition circuitry.
