David Navone Question
David Navone Question
i have been seeing some posts on here in regards to using the David Navone setup instead of the pricey Cleansweep and/or 3sixty. I am wanting to replace all of my speakers with the exception of the center channel with JL XR Evo's and run them with the JL 300/4 slash amp. I also am going to do a 12W6 and run that with the 500/1 slash amp. Please keep in mind that i am keeping my factory HU since i have navigation and LOVE it.
On the JL website, this set up is shown (http://mobile.jlaudio.com/pdfs/SYS_2.pdf), but they are running the main power, remotes, and inputs to the 500/1 and then just connecting that directly with the 300/4 and of course using an aftermarket headunit.
My question is why would i need to 2 adapters (NE-774V and NE-7V) for this setup, or would I???? i have seen KINGOFPAIN's thread and went to the website and thought this route would be a heck of alot cheaper, but am unsure of how to run everything. Also, if i left the center channel alone will that wonderful chick for my navigation still talk to me or will that be lost??
I know that there are alot of you stereo buffs on here that have already done this before, so i would rather ask now then mess up the TL............Thanks fellas and I welcome ANY AND ALL HELPFUL INFO!!

A few of us have used both the NE-774V and NE-7V because we LOCed the 4 main channels as well as center and subwoofer for a total of 6 channels. If your center channel will remain on your system but be powered by the stock amp, you only need 5 channels of amplification and 4 or 5 channels of LOC. The 500/1 can accept a high-level (speaker-level) input. So you could connect the wires going into the stock sub into the 500/1. The LOC would probably sound better but JL makes quality stuff, so who knows.
I have the exact same setup as you for amps (300/4 and 500/1), but I also have a small Boston GT22 for my center channel. I am using Navone LOCs now, but will be switching to a 3sixty this weekend because I am getting a lot of HISS in my system (see this thread).
So you COULD survive with only the NE-774V, but I've never tested the 500/1 using a high-level input so I don't know how well it works...
You will still be able to hear the navi chick, but her voice might not be as loud as the other four speakers.

so if i decide to do the LOC off of the sub wires, i would have a set of RCA's from the sub to the 500/1 and RCA's from the 4 channel LOC to the 300/4, correct?? since i am not changing the center speaker channel, i should probably just get a single LOC for the subwoofer????
my next question is do i only need to run 1 power wire from the battery to the 500/1 and then just connect the 300/4 to that one or do i need to have a splitter to run power wire to both amps?
So over the weekend, i stopped at the local JL shop and they quoted me $3500 for all of the speakers, amps, wiring, and included in that was $950 for LABOR!!!! that is where you get killed if you don't do it yourself. what i am thinking of doing is doing the speakers and all wiring myself and having them do my box and amp set up as they have a pretty sick idea where they place the sub firing in to the car, but still leaving about 4 inches between the back seat and the box.
Do you have the 1 12" setup? if so, how does it sound???
In regards to your hissing, did you take the signal/wires AFTER the stock amp or before and just disconnect the wires totally from the amp???
sorry for so many questions, but i am really thinking that i can do this myself and save a ton of money.

Hey dude,
So yes, you can solder an RCA to the stock subwoofer wires and plug that straight into the 500/1. It will deal with the signal appropriately. But I would get at least an LOC as it will probably do the down-conversion better, but I honestly don't know as I've never tried it.
As for power, you can run one power wire from the battery, but get a proper splitter in order to bring power to the 500/1 and 300/4. The 500/1 requires a 50A fuse just for itself, I realized that this weekend when I kept blowing the 30 and 40A fuses I was giving it.
The 300/4 requires a 40A fuse. I would use a fuseable splitter so you can put maybe one 80A fuse at the battery and then a 40A and a 50A in the fuseable splitter. I ran two 4gauge power wires from the battery. One runs my 500/1 and the other runs my 300/4 and a small Boston GT22 amp which powers my center channel.
I have a 1 x 10" setup. I'm using the Boston G510 which is a pretty crazy sub and I have tons of bass and I'm happy. I'm firing into the trunk and it sounds great.
Here's what my setup looked like before I swapped out the e4300 for a 500/1:

I took the signal wires AFTER the stock amp, but this weekend I added a Rockford 3sixty.1 to my system and now the hissing is gone and my system sounds INCREDIBLE.
I'm really happy with the way it has turned out. I'll be making a new thread with my setup when I finish with the trunk trim.
No worries for the questions, bring 'em on.
