Crystal Method - Legion of Boom - DVD-A

I would highly suggest you pick this one up, if you like that type of music, as it sounds supurb with your 5.1. I was very impressed. It's very close to how Blue Man Group mixed their music, and they definately mixed this one the right way.

Thanks for the heads up on GOOD DVD-A's. It was a pain in the ass to find on Amazon, just doing a search on "Legion of Boom" wouldn't pull up the DVD-A.

Thanks to Amazon Prime, I'll be jamming with it Friday.

Uknowwhoibe, I agree though...XM and FM really don't do the TL's stereo justice like a DVD-A does. hehe

You folks should check out Quadraphonic Quad. Their forum members review hi-rez discs (DVD-A & SACD) and might be worth the effort to read before a purchase. FYI, JonUrban is also an AZ member.

Where are you buying DVD Audio?, I have noticed a limited selection online.

Is it becoming a dead format or more popular?

I only have the Acura sampler, Beck - Sea Change and REM- Best of.

I will check out the Crystal Method! I have some of their older stuff

retail stores don't sell very many, but sometimes they'll have a few if u look hard enough, or ask them. i did some searching in this forum and found a few links that sell DVD-As, there were more but these were the ones that i thought had a decent selection.

http://www.dts.com/entertainment/catalogue/
http://store.acousticsounds.com/dvdaudio.cfm

they seem like fair prices but i didn't order any. Amazon.com had a lot also, but it's hard to find them unless you're searching for a specific one. Good Luck.

Hey Dmarcus, how do you like The Crystal Method? heheh
Hey, it's not too bad actually. In my world I'd call it "techno" music. I like the way the music uses all the different channels. I've got 145 gig of music btw, over 26000 songs, everything from classical to big band to rock. I will say that my favorite type of music is rock though, grew up in the 60's and 70's, doesn't have to be classic rock, Fountains of Wayne, REM are good. At one point I even had a RECORD player hooked into my pc. For you youngen's those are like really big cd's with grooves in them. Got a 60 gig ipod (my 4th ipod), work in IT so this stuff is pretty easy for me.

I also picked up a couple of other dvd-a's: Queen - Night at the Opera, a Robert Cray, Sanata - Supernatural.

My 24 year old daughter tends to keep me updated with what's new, but she likes a lot of "folk" music, Dan Bern, Ani DiFranco, etc.

A RECORD PLAYER!! Oh my, what is that!!! Is that the big black double sided laser disc's of olden days!!!! Didn't know those still existed, thought they where wiped out with the dinosaurs or at least in the last plague!!

Phono in on a computer, that offers a great sound!! Hey, atleast you get to listen to that huge collection of records you had from the 60's and 70's. Now, just take those songs and rip them to DVD-a, you will have all the hiss and pop of the record on your DVD-a player.

I am just playing around, so please don't get upset. I grew up with my grandmother, so I got to play with all her records, which she still has to this day. Atleast you didn't say you where recording from your 8 track player!!!!

LOL, don't worry I've got a thick skin. Fortunately I was as anal back then as I am now, the records were all in good shape, always used a good player and needle. They actually still sell those you know, the record players and the needles. It's hard to tell which songs where on a record vs a cd on my ipod, and I encode at a high rate around 224 bps.

And since I work in IT, I'm usually the oldest person in my office and get called grandpa! Oh well, get old or die young, I'll get old thank you.

I would have to say that records have a better sound than CD's. I haven't had a record player since 1987.I gave it up for the convenience of CD's when I was transferred to England. I've had a CD player since 1983 or 84, got one the first week the were released.

Today's CD's are much better, but listen to a CD from today, then listen the album version of that CD, the album will sound better. DVD-A are great, if only they would release more of them.

If you listen to XM, the older music will prove it. Their compressing an already compress version of the music.

I now work as a programmer, but spent a semester in IT to, I was doing computer support and helping maintain a Data center. I know, the needles and players are more expensive then a CD player. A lot of people still swear by there records.

I saw this thread and had to post. I love Love LOVE The Legion of Boom DVD-A in my car! I also have Linkin Park - Reanimated, Queen - The Game and Eagles - Hotel California. If you like Legion of Boom I suggest the Linking Park DVD-A. Not the same genre, but the Queen is actually really good too. It's like a born again, kick @$$ album.

I just ordered this disc from reading this thread. I've heard the album before and while it's not as good as Vegas, I'm anxious to hear it in 5.1.

Yep... Thanks for the suggestion.

I just ordered about $100 worth of DVD-A's from half.com. Good call there. I would have ordered more, but the pickins are slim unless your a serious classical enthusiast.

I just wanted some Stones in 5.1... Instead I got Iggy Pop and the Sex Pistols.

yeah... if u like the crystal method, there is a compilation series you should check out called "Euro Club Hits" --

it's pretty clear that dance music is coming back in the around the world -- just check the recent big American hip-hop and R&B hits which are clear rip-offs of the european dance style.....

here's the direct itunes link to the "Euro Club Hits" series.....
