I think you have to first initiate the connection by speaking "Phone Options" > "Pair" > set PIN. I tried connecting from an S3 first but the HFL told me to go through those processes.

Try completely resetting the HFL.

Usually I have to set the phone to discoverable, pair on the HFL, and then click the HFL in the bluetooth devices on the phone. It doesn't normally automatically pair the first time. You have to select it in the list.

I had zero issues setting mine up following the directions in the owners manual. Works great. I know sometimes different carriers set the phones up differently, mine is Verizon.

This^^

Took me 1 minute to set up my S3. Try starting the pairing process with your bluetooth turned off on your phone and then turn it on when the HFL starts searching.

The 4 digit pin is one I choose right? Or is it one the prev owner set?

I've gotten all the way there but it doesn't seem to be able to find my phone. Just keeps searching

1) make sure the phone bluetooth is on
2) hit the car hfl button and say "phone setup"
3) hit the car hfl button and say "pair"
4) Follow the prompts and enter your pin in the HFL
5) When it tells you to make your phone discoverable, goto your phone bluetooth settings and turn on discovery.
6) In a few seconds the HFL should show up in the list of bluetooth devices on your phone. Select it.
7)The car will say it connected and tell you to enter your pin. Do so on the phone.
8) Car will prompt for a name. (or maybe this was earlier?) give it one.

You should be paired now. I switch roms on my phone a lot and have to go through the whole pairing thing all the time.

At first my does the same but it turn out to be the phone. The Samsung s3 have the newer firm wear then the HFL have the old firm wear. It does same then you update your Samsung s2 too.

Does it appear in the list on the phone when attempting to pair? The Bluetooth modules are known to go bad on these cars.

odd, do you have custom firmware on your phone? I switch rom a lot (official Samsung or Cyan/ AOKP), and they all pair with the car just fine. May as well try to pair the car with other phone, see if the HFL works.

I have tried to pair my S3 multiple times in many different orders and each time my HFL gets stuck in "Pair" mode forcing me to disconnect the battery to get control of my radio again. The phone recognizes the HFL and prompts me to enter my PIN which I have done, but the HFL never connects.

I had no problem whatsoever pairing my BlackBerry so I have no clue what the problem is. At this point I have just said eff it and use the speaker phone on the S3. I would love to get the HFL operational with the phone though so any help would be appreciated.

Hmmm strange so many are having issues, my mom's S3 through VZW is also linked in my car when she borrow my car.

Her's linked up no problem when I set it up and she is running the latest firmware update, no roms at all.

Maybe a bluetooth module?

just got my gs3 today and set it up w/o issues, here is what I did:
1) make sure the phone bluetooth is on
2) hit the car hfl button and say "phone setup"
3) hit the car hfl button and say "pair"
4) Follow the prompts and enter your pin in the HFL
5) When it tells you to make your phone discoverable, goto your phone bluetooth settings and turn on visible mode then click scan.
6) In a few seconds the HFL should show up as a mac address first. Select it.
7)enter the same pin you setup in hfl on the phone.
8) Car will prompt for a name.

works flawlessly with my gs3...sounds like an issue with your individual bluetooth module or phone. Have you tried pairing your phone to anything else other then the TL and had success?

I think the main thing people are forgetting is to click scan at the bottom of the gs3 screen, after making the phone visible.
the hfl tells you it requires operation from your Bluetooth device

I have an S3 running a custom rom and pairs w/o issues at all. My steps are pretty much like what osvaldo516 listed.

I am having the same issues in my RDX with the same phone. The car never shows up on my phone nor does it get to the pin stage. I will try some of the steps here since they seem to be a little different from what I have been doing and see if that works.

THANK YOU!!! Friday I took a deep breath and told myself I was paring this phone to my ride if it kills me. I think I was saying the commands too slow so it didn't hear me. But I used these instructions and now I can talk in my car. Now to just get it to stop dialing random 4 digits instead of my voice commands I will be happy. But this worked for me and my S3

My S3 from Verizon paired perfectly on the 1st shot, and so did the replacement unit I got after I dropped mine and broke the screen.

There is after all, a handsfreelink customer service/tech support # you can call if you're still having problems, 1.888.528.7876.
