Computer question

Now, this may sound strange, but...

What would be required to be able to play World of Warcraft in my car on the Nav screen?

I would probably need the following:

- high speed internet
- gaming PC
- keyboard
- mouse
- some way to connect and install all of this

Any ideas?

...just get a laptop computer and a mobile internet card. You should be able to get a reasonably decent Dell or Toshiba that will breeze thru WoW for under 1k. As far as the nav screen is concerned, how would you feel about WoW at 800 X 240? or even less, on the OEM nav screen. Trust me, a 7" screen, no matter how good, will not be comfortable for gaming of that nature...besides the crap rez, you'll find it very difficult to read text (chat will take up a significant portion of the screen just to be legible). Now, why not game on a reasonably sized 15" of laptop LCD? No wires to run, no shut down controller, no switching/relaying, probably much better in sunlight...and if you're gaming while driving, you've got bigger problems than how to put a PC in your car.

Now, if you want something to host music, satellite, navigation, bluetooth hands free, etc., then mp3car.com is the place to ask.

use the cingular 3g pcmcia access card... We had cingular come out and demo it @ work - line speed was 900k - 1MB; blows the pants off 115.2k Edge/GPRS!

To get video, you would need Dom's TVNAV2GO
for sound you would need USA SPEC HON2Y
as for computer, You would need a good PC that properly shuts down with car, I can build one for you
Yo could by a semi-mini keyboard, look at the bluetooth nokia keyboard for an example
a normal wireless gaming mouse will do
a CD drive, and if you have a TL-S with carbon fiber trim, I can trade you my CD drive prefitted with holes and such that is usb with the trim for your trim plus cash.

If you need help, you can PM me as i am one of the 2 people who put a working carputer with factroy touchscreen to control the PC on this board. BTW I am still working on the interface, just having not enough time.

I second the sound option, you can just use a 4PDT relay and use the XM input audio wires and switch from pc sound to xm sound. Quality is probably as good as the USA SPEC HON2Y. I use a Soundblaster XFI XMOD (usb sound card).
I prolly can run World of Warcraft since i tether using bluetooth DUN at evdo speed and I run a dual core 2ghz / 2gig ram laptop haha... good thing I'm not "addicted" to that game

Thanks for all the great suggestions, but I think Hi There hit it on the head - I won't be able to read the text/chat in the game due to the Nav resolution. Sigh. Thanks again, everybody.

Hahaha, I got you all beat. I actually wrote a custom frontend for Carpc's. One of the major functions is that it can embed any application. I have WOW embeded into the front end so you can play and change songs, hear nav directions, etc. I have the Novatel Wireless card by Sprint.

Here's a few teaser pics:

I'm at work so no WOW here I'll post it up later

Just wondering saturated fat, why write a custom frontend when there are so many great ones available already ( RR for example) or is that a skin?

Please don't get me wrong I was using RR for the longest time and is a very good frontend. I even tried a few of the other ones on mp3car.com. However, sometimes I found that RR was a bit laggy and had a bunch of features that I didnt care for or would ever use. I also wanted a search function for songtitles/names which at the time RR didnt support (not sure if it does it now). I also wanted something streamlined that "anyone" could use. I have this setup running in my brothers TL (theklassic), my Z, and a few other guys that we've done the Carputer setup for.

That and I have no life...

If you or anyone else wants to try it out shoot me a PM and I'll give you a copy.

I hear you.... yeah RR does have search and goes through your entire song directory pretty fast on my library of 40gig. I know RR is kinda laggy but I like all the extras it has like weather and support for flash which I LOVE.

To me i just went with a computer upgrade from a PIII 1ghz / 628mb ram to a dual core 2ghz/2gig ram. Needless to say the difference is huge.
You should post your app in mp3car forum software for other peeps unless you plan on selling it.
Nice work btw. =)
