Checkered screen

After I start the car, my Navi screen has a checkered pattern on it and is unresponsive. I cleaned the DVD which did not help. I can’t even get it to go into the diagnostic menu. Any ideas?

because the DVD unit has died/failed.

you need a new DVD unit or a refurbished unit.

Very rarely is it a screen issue. It's almost always an issue with the DVD unit in the trunk.

Wife’s MRP-S came with this problem. Wish had seen this thread. Have a “Tesla” screen in storage ready to install.

Though this is the only TL with functioning HFL!

Also, there may be people selling DVD trunk units from parting out cars so check CL/FB/ebay/this forum/etc. IIRC Alpine charges something like $350 to repair dvd units that you send in (not sure if prices changed, search forum for thread on this)

Though I think there is a code you need to get if you use another car's dvd unit I believe? (those more knowledgeable can verify this)

I cleaned the dvd and tried to get into the reset screen to no avail. The next morning, my wife told me it started working. We will see how long that holds out. On another occasion, it started working for 2 days and quit. We will see what happens this time.
