Cheap Backup Camera Option
So I was walking through walmart on saturday and I noticed they had a $98 wireless back up camera (I know all the negatives on wireless cameras) but since it was only $98 and it was something to do I decided to get it.
I had been on the market looking for a back up camera because of the places where I park...mainly at work...so I use it once a day...so I figured this would be perfect for my application. I also don't like modifying my car too much...
I did modify the camera a bit, and I have to say I'm pretty impressed with its performance so far. It's not comparable to the wired/more expensive cameras but it fits my application perfect.
I know I should expect much from it regarding quality/life but I was just putting this out there just in case people had a similar application...and I searched and apparently nobody has it yet.
So far so good with it...and with minor to no modifications to my car...I'll keep you all updated on its performance and life.

What are the differances between the wired and yours.
I have 5% tints in back, can you say lousy rear view in general?
Want to use sometimes as rearview mirror too
In a few years the cams will be madatory on new cars...finally!

well...the camera I installed is wireless...so there's really no wires running around...i installed it on my license plate...and it points down to the bumper...but I guess you could use it as a rear view if you install it outside...i don't think it would work inside...

My question was about the quality differance between the 2 units if you had seen both inaction.
I want a unit that mounts on the lic plate frame and sees around - not just down

I wonder if this would be able to be connected to the factory nav screen somehow? What is the wireless frequency? Is it an fm transmitter of some sort or what? How is it activated?

You do get interference sometimes due to the camera being wireless...but is very minimal...nothing that would prevent you from looking back while you park...and it is possible to mount it on the license plate to look back (as a rearview mirror) it might be impractical simply b/c the monitor is kinda small...so if you did want to use one as a rearview then maybe you would want one that you can see through the nav system...

I mounted the screen in the rear passenger passthrough door...the whole "backup camera displaying on the nav" never really did it for me...if you're looking back you have to look forward to see if you're going to hit the car?!?! so i went with this setup because i place my right arm on the passenger seat when I parallel park or reverse...so i can see my passenger mirror...i'm looking back through the rear windshield...and I glance down (while looking bacK) to see if my bumper is going to hit anything...it actually gives you the illusion that you are seeing right through the car...if there was a hole from the backseat all the way to the bumper....i just found this to be more practical and made more sense...
Johnny--2k: I doubt this could be hooked up to the factory nav...the camera itself has the wireless transmitter...i active it when i turn my parking lights on...just so when i'm parallel parking and i'm switching from drive to reverse its not constantly turning on and off...although i don't know the frequency it seems like it would be a pain to go that route...
I have pictures somewhere...i might have time later to post them...

Anyone out there want to experiment?
This could turn out to be quite a product!

I had a wireless backup camera that I tried to install, and I got ABSOLUTELY AWFUL interference from my bluetooth connection to my cellphone. It was completely un-usable, and I had to return the unit.
