Canadian AUX input
Canadian AUX input
I'm in Vancouver area in Canada. We do not have XM here and the TL doesn't even have a selector button for XM on the HU. We have CD/DVD, AM, FM and TAPE.
According to all the posts I've read, to hook up an AUX adaptor, you lose XM, unless you do some fancy wiring job.
My question is, what if you don't even have XM like us in Canada? Is there a way to easily hook up an AUX input on a Canadian TL without XM and if so, how would you select it (remember, we have no XM button) to output to the speakers from the HU?
Thanks to anyone who can help.

Hi there Jon,
Check out my website (link below). I did an AUX install in Canada and it works almost flawlessly. You have to make a small modification to current AUX adapters, but supposedly a new generation is coming out VERY SHORTLY (I'd wait), and you won't have to make any modifications at all.
If you have more questions, let me know!

Hey Rob.
Thanks for the reply. I checked out your site.
My chin is still on the ground. What an incredible job you did!! Holy shit. I'm amazed at the amount of work you and others have done. How do you know where to even start on a project like that?
I'm hoping there will be a more simple solution soon. Thanks again.

You press CD/DVD twice and CD-C appears on the display (CD-Changer). It actually has CD changer controls so you can connect an external CD changer to the AUX input if you want to. I have my whole system going into the AUX input, so I can either be paying my iPod through it, or a movie from the PS2, or a game from the PS2. Pretty nifty.
Well, you can definitely install it without making any holes in the dash or console. I've taken mine apart 3 or 4 times now and it's not that tricky anymore.
Or you can get a shop to do it for you and blame them if they break something. hehe.
I know a crazy installer in your area actually... well, Vancouver... He's a friend of my cousin's who lives out there. http://www.ramosproaudio.com. Check him out, he's done really nice stuff.

After studying your pics, I had a look under the dash. The aux changer port on the HU is accessible from the driver's side if you peal back the carpet, without removing the whole HU.
Thanks for the info about the crazy installer also. I'll check out his site.

Jon,
Funny you should say that about peeling back the carpet. Someone else I've been chatting with told me the same thing! I haven't tried it yet, but he says he could do it. I'm just wondering if there's room to insert the AUX box from there. It's kinda big. I have mine hiding to the left of the HU so maybe it's accessible from back there.
Good luck with your adventure.

Which AUX box should I use? Apparently Blitzsafe has one but they don't list one on their site for a 3rd gen TL yet. You mentioned that you had to make a small modification to your aux box but a new one would be out that won't need that. Do you know if it's out yet? If not, what modification is needed? You eluded to it on your site but never detailed it (or did I just miss it?)
Thanks again for all your help!
Thanks again for all your help!
Jon,
Supposedly autotoys.com has a new box coming out. I'm going to write to them now to ask them if it's ready. This new box is supposed to have firmware that supports the TL HU. I currently have a Blitzsafe box from them but it required that small modification and frankly it's a pain in the ass to fiddle with everytime you start the car and want to listen to the AUX channel. The sound quality is amazing, but the initial pain in the butt sucks.
I'll write them now and see if that box is ready. They are supposed to be sending me a sample to test it out.

I emailed autotoys (there's no phone number for them) yesterday and haven't heard back yet. When I do hear, I'll let you know! Sometimes they take a little while to get back to me.

I sent an email to Blitzsafe asking about support for a 3rd gen TL (sans XM). I got this reply this AM:
"We will have an interface available the end of the month. Call our office then for ordering.
Thanks,
BlitzSafe Technical Support"
There is hope!!

That's AWESOME!! I'm so anxious to switch to the one that won't require constant manual switching.

Heard anything yet?
Jon,
Yup, I've heard from Autotoys... they have a prototype ready and someone from this forum is testing it. Once it is approved, they will send me a box to test on a Canadian TL. I am hoping this will be before the end of the month!

did you plug the AUX adapter to the connector where the XM harness takes place in the US? Is it a white harness with 14 pins on it? what AUX adapter do you use on your car and what's the part number?
thanks a lot
qqyy,
Yep, the AUX adapter plugs into the 14-pin port at the back of the head unit where XM usually goes. I have the first generation AUX adapter on mine which requires some hardware modification to work, so it's not so great. I'd get the new one. It's available from Autotoys here:

Make sure you select "ACURA TL VERSION" from the options drop down box.
