Angry Can this be right??? New car, old Navi DVD?

I picked up my brand new 2005 TL on Friday. I went to the website to find out about Navi updates and find that not only are they $180-odd dollars, but it appears that the disc in my car is seriously outdated! What my in-car info says:

Continental USA (I thought it was supposed to be USA and Canada?)
20041119
Ver 1.0010

The site for updates says the 3.40 disc is now available. That seems a long ways from Ver 1.0010, assuming those numbers are comparable.

I asked a few times about Navi updates when in the buying process, and never did he say that they would cost me anything and never did he say that it would be outdated on the date of purchase.

Is this normal? Recommendations for recourse?

The version number is on the DVD itself. I don't know what those other version numbers mean as that confused me too. Just pop out the DVD and look for the version there.

I'll do that before I send off nasty letters to the GM of the dealership and to Acura proper...

But is it everyone's experience that the disc is as up to date as it can be upon delivery?

Okay. Feeling better. Thanks for the tip. The disc says 3.40C. But the website says that new updates come out in the fall, usually, so I guess that's $180 I'll be spending in the not too distant future...

Take it easy - this is the latest disc.

You're comparing map data version with actual disc version (available on the physical disc itself should you eject it from the trunk-mounted DVD-ROM).

There's no way a dealer would sell a car with such an outdated disc. I don't even know when version 1.00x would have been since it spans generations (and it sure as hell wouldn't have worked in a 2005 model year car).

don't get too wild up about the updates 3.40C is the latest disc and you did not get ripped off. even tho there are updates for the disc it is not always necesary to get every single disk. Usually there are release notes for the update disks and often they are minor additions.

Yes, calmed down now. The major reason for my suspicions was that a lot of newish restaurants were not in the Points of Interest when I searched. Then when the numbers didn't seem right... but the disc did say 3.40C, so I'm calm now. Thanks for the thoughts, all.

... and herein lies the issue:

Acura/Alpine's discs (among others) are outdated as soon as they're released. Restaurants/POI's in existance for over five years have yet to be included in 3.40C. I will never pay for an update again unless many (> 10) streets I frequent don't appear on a disc. It could happen, but $185 isn't worth it...

It amazes me Acura charges this much for the updated nav disk. Especially if the new disks have minor updates, as someone mentioned earlier in the thread.

If Acura continues to charge such outrageous prices people may have to look elsewhere for the updated disks.

well it's a minor upgrade if you have a relatively new disk, then the upgrade is not "worth" it for you. however if you have a disk that is pretty old then the upgrade might seem more worthwhile because there will be more up to date information on the new disk compared to a much older disk. acura doesn't require anyone to upgrade their disks frequently, it's entirely up to you. i would not encourage getting a pirated copy as it does take some work into making these disks.
